I agree with Chicken's view more - this is cause of lack of trust with the government... anything the government says, people WILL do the oppositeIs the low take-up also partly because a segment also might have strong relationship with chinese medicine practices???

I would say it is sad it cant be used overseas, but it is better to use it as i have a feeling this airline could go bankrupt soon and all the points earned will be worthless - just a personal opinion this airline will go bankruptWe had a relatively small number of Asia Miles points due to expire tomorrow so we booked some nights in Geraldton to use them all up. I didn't think it was worthwhile trying to get them extended as the chances of us ever flying with them again is miniscule. These points were leftover after we had to cancel our 2020 trip to Germany. Geraldton is a bit of a let-down compared to Frankfurt but it was better than letting them expire.
How long can CX hold out not being permitted to fly, and when they do, having such difficult crew ISO requirements?Flight ban from AU to HK has been extended to 4 March. Sheer lunacy...
Glad I cancelled my award tickets for May.Flight ban from AU to HK has been extended to 4 March. Sheer lunacy...
Not something you could risk really, given the important event you are attending. I have flown through HKG on the way to Europe pretty much exclusively since about 2014, but can't see it happening again. And I always had a real soft spot for CX ever since our first flights with them in 1990. Just very sad to see what is happening to the airline.Glad I cancelled my award tickets for May.
It is sad that it is happening in a way, but this is HK now - even for me as a person born there with family there, I can't see myself returning in my own lifetime...Not something you could risk really, given the important event you are attending. ....just about to bite the bullet on this myselfGlad I cancelled my award tickets for May.
I am sure the CCP would not have an agenda to ensure local competitors of the mainland airlines (over which the CCP has more control and ownership(?)) are eliminated or perhaps definitively shown who is in control.
Under the new law anyone born in Hong Kong or China is a Chinese citizen and any other passport held by them will not be recognised.
I agree with you completely - and I also did this change of nationality declaration in November 2019 after what happened starting June 2019, but who would have thought what happens now?Off topic but this is not correct.
Anyone born in Hong Kong and of Chinese heritage, would acquire Chinese citizenship automatically. This has always been the case.
However, anyone who is a Chinese subject because of the above could clarify their citizenship / renounce their Chinese citizenship by filling in the application form "Declaration of Change of Nationality".
I did this back in 2018, not knowing what would happen about 9 months later down the track.

That's true as well. In fact, if your face is yellow not white, the Chinese government would treat you as Chinese. Just look at the Swedish citizen Gui Minhai. I think we are way off topic now.Actually it doesn't matter if you give up HK citizenship or not. You could still break the National Security Law even if you are foreigner, and committing the "crime" anywhere in the world. You can be arrested and detained at HKG. So the only way to avoid it is to not fly CX and/or go via HKG
You're all late to the party. I did mine in 1997!I agree with you completely - and I also did this change of nationality declaration in November 2019 after what happened starting June 2019, but who would have thought what happens now?
