Centurion here I come.....

Ok now we know who to blame pshepvic! I haven't had to claim in 45 years of travel with travel insurance and nor has the rest of the family so it covers 100 years of travel including to the boonies and back.
 
Did anybody who sent an email to Centurion regarding the reported insurance changes actually get a useful reply? I used the Centurion web site contact form late last week and on Monday I received a reply that my message had been received by the "Executive Customer Relations Office", whatever that is, and that one of their "analysts" would contact me shortly. I haven't had any further response from them.

I was talking to our Amex account manager....they are getting lots of queries about the insurance issue....so make your voices heard now.

I must have had bad luck then, as I've had the following claims in the last 8 years since I've had a Plat then Cent card:

- Luggage delay due to QF's baggage system crash in Sydney a few years ago
- Chilean Volcano Ash cloud where my partner was stuck in Tassie and claimed for accom, meals & alternate flight
- Damaged mobile phone
- Lost passport replacement costs
- Baggage delay when bags didn't make a 47 minute connection in MIA (I found it quite funny that my bags went MIA in MIA!)

The last three claims were all on the same trip.

OK pshepvic I think you can be exempted from calling American Express to request no changes to the insurance policy.
All that has happened to me was the 8 hour hold up at Perth airport after landing due to an electrical storm and QF gave me a Sorry Voucher for letting me catch up on all the movies.
Now the rest of you could make some noise on the insurance changes because Amex is listening.

Oh I still plan to write to them to let them know what I think of the changes - based on how much I've needed to rely on the insurance I definitely don't want it downgraded!

I just received the same reply, word-for-word, except my inaugural year is 1999.
 
Does that mean Centurion card holders are exempt from the proposed changes to Travel Insurance?
Are Centurion card holders still covered simply by having the card, even if they don't pay for the trip with their Amex?

At the moment yes that is correct you just have to have the card and it covers all supplementary holders too.
 
They probably downgraded the Platinum insurance in response to our "Centurion is it worth it" discussions.
Now the Centurion insurance is clearly better than the Platinum insurance.

But at the same time they weakened the "we can earn 125k points extra by having the Centurion" argument. It seems you can now buy the 125k points for only $2750 :)

Do I trust an organisation that changed the rules within the twelve month annual subscription period?

Well that's positive. Maybe those other comments about Centurion being changed weren't true. Not going to count my chickens just yet, but it's somewhat of a good sign ... I hope!

I was told that the drafted insurance policy for centurion is dated Aug.
So the best bet is to wait and see... At least until mid May (90 days notice period)...

I hope they don't change it

Got the same response, seems they took some time out to decide whether to press the button on the changes or not.

Technically they have still devalued the card since I assume any supplementary platinum card holders will still fall under the revised platinum insurance T&Cs. Not sure about this because it doesn't affect me.
 
Whilst I am the first perton to give Cent a whack if I am not happy - I will also be the first to give Cent a big tick and elephant stamp if they do good - yesterday they done good.

Cruiserette and myself off to Europe for 3 weeks June / July - finally we decided on 9 days in Barcelona before heading to Stockholm / Copenhagen then home.

YES I was kinda late trying to get accom beach side in Barcelone - wanted W Hotel or Arts Hotel. Sent off emails to both - W Hotel wanted 1,250euro/nt and Arts Hotel 575euro/nt - OMG. Flight Centre rep just could not get availability.

On phone to Cent travel - Lori took the call - I explained details - she called back within 1hr and asked could I put checkin date back 1 day and take 8nts instead of 9 cause if I could we could get Arts Hotel at 285euro/nt - OMFG - well done Lori - WELL DONE.

It's a fantastic hotel and you should definitely stay there for a few nights.
