Hi,

Am I the only one that hasn't received any paperwork etc about the CX/Centurion status partnership etc ???

I am wondering, perhaps I don't qualify as I have only been a Centurion member since March ?

Might have to ring them.

Cheers,

Brooke

It came in a combined brochure/form, with the form on the inside cover. I don't think the time you have been a Centurion holder would make a difference so call them.
Since I am already a Qantas Platinum frequent flyer I didn't bother with it.

I stand corrected and am impressed :) Something to aspire to in life

Amex don't care what the spend is on as long as you pay the bill on time each month. To them there's no difference between a tradie putting $250K a year through Bunnings and someone spending $250K a year on flights and fine dining. The Centurion card is not some exclusive gentleman's club its merely recognition that you have the ability to spend and more importantly repay Amex. Its not true that there is no spending limit either, when I had one you are asked to ring Amex and give them an idea of what you are likely to be spending each month. At the time I think I said up to about 10K GBP and they told me they would never question anything under 25K GBP. Having said that it's still a high limit.

Did somebody at AMEX tell you that? Because someone at AMEX told me the complete opposite of that. I have been told that to receive a Centurion invitation you first need to have a Platinum charge card and that they look for evidence of high discretionary spending. I was specifically told that a small business owner putting his business expenses through his Platinum card would not normally quality for a Centurion card. Now that was about three years ago and could have changed, given that they now seem to have a lot more card members these days.

That's what I have found strange - I didn't even have the Platinum charge, only had Gold. Do put a fair bit of travel etc through it (National Sales Manager - so travel a bit), but think that my "good standing" with AmEx may have gotten me the invite - 10+ years as a customer and always paid my Gold charge on time. Either that - or I just got the invite by mistake !

I have enjoyed, so far, using some of the benefits associated with the Centurion card - but am still wondering if I will renew next year. I would just love for someone to say something other than "gee, that's a heavy card" when I use it :D Must be the area I live in :D

Call me one of "those" people - but at $4300 a year, I want the recognition - damnit !

I thought Centurion has a cap - maximum member number and their criteriais adjusted yearly based on that. But hey I might be wrong, amex has so many hidden internal rules.

That was what someone told me when I had one in the UK about 7 years ago. You might be right though because I put about $350K Business and $150K personal stuff plus I've booked 2 x 20K holidays with plat travel through it and they haven't offered me another one. Might be because I told them I only wanted a Platinum charge card when I moved over here because I think you need to live in a major city to get the advantages, perhaps it was the ultimate insult. I only really use it for the points though so i'm not really bothered. I have deal of the century with one of my suppliers though they have a deal with Amex where you get 6 points for every $ you spend!!!! I couldn't believe it , safe to say I buy everything off them I can. I travel to the UK a fair bit so a $30K spend gets me 180,000 Ascent points enough for an upper class return with Virgin:lol: Plus I get 17.5% off their stock for being on the top tier. Unreal!!!!!

I'm sure every one who has one or in my case had one has had a smug moment that almost feels worth the annual fee alone. In my case I was in New York at a bar in Manhattan and some irritating guy was tapping his Platinum Amex on the bar trying to get attention and letting everyone know he had a platinum one. So I stood next to him and waved the black one around and got served first. "Priceless " as the Mastercard add goes but very childish too. The worst moments oh the girl in the supermarket calling security because she thought it was a fake:shock:

I reckon if you asked them for one, given the spend, they’d offer it to you. But I can understand why you aren’t in a hurry to do that... :)

I think the dumbest thing ever said to me was by a check-in clerk at the Venetian in Macau was "Wow! you could buy a helicopter with one of these" I think my reply was, "No problem, but are you going to pay it off?" Funny how some people only see what you can buy without even considering that somewhere along the line it has to be paid for.

I"v had my Black Centurean card for 4 years and its great, funny things people say when you hand it over, like a waitress who asked me if i was realy rich I replied that i was not and that Amex was realy stupid for giving me the card, another guy said i could by a 747 on the card, i told him why would i do that when i alredy had an A 380 at home he belived me.

I have worked out over the years that if i do two trips a year OS with my wife first class that the card pays for itself, and some of the othere benifits like booking the centurean table at Cuttler and Co on the Wdnesday for the Saterday night I’ve had my Black Centurion card for 4 years and its great, funny things people say when you hand it over, like a waitress who asked me if I was really rich I replied that I was not and that Amex was really stupid for giving me the card, another guy said I could by a 747 on the card, I told him why would I do that when I already had an A 380 at home he believed me.

I like the person who started the link gave it 12 months, and it was all good so I’ve kept it going, but I do see it as a company expense and who knows when I retire I may not keep it, the other thing that’s been good is I pay my tax bill with it and that adds a lot of points to my total. is great :p:p:p:p

Doesn’t the ATO impose a $50K limit on the amount you can pay by credit card? (On top of a 1.5% surcharge).

Yes they do per transaction so you just split the transactions and I average about 160k a quarter its 1.25% and it’s a cost of business so I’m happy to pay the % and claim it back on my Company tax

I’m going to have to look into that some more one of these days. I’m currently between businesses (just sold mine two weeks ago) but I’ll keep it in mind. Thanks for sharing. :)

Dumb question - is qualification/invitation only for charge card holders? Have any amex platinum credit card holders received an invite?

Platinum Charge Card for me - with an accompanying fee-free credit card

Yes, I believe it's only for charge card holders.

The Centurion card is a charge card, so they won't consider credit card holders for membership.

Hence if you want a shot at the Centurion, you'll have to get a charge card (and pay the higher annual fees :()

If you don't see value in the $900 fee for the plat card, I can't see you finding value in the centurion.
