Would have been nice to have been able to enter or attend, but in my case it was actually moot as QF would need to bring me from LAX to SYD that day ...

In reality , it's not 'bias' in posting as members as such that mods were excluded from entering, it's more to avoid any perceptions of 'in house' judgements in relation to the winners of this competition.

Congratulations to all that entered, whether they were chosen or not. :D

You lot are boring, not even a nibble. :(

For the record, IMO if Qantas wanted to give something in support of AFF they'd be hard pressed to do better than a special mod only lunch/dinner. As for bias, fair point, but I really don't think their opinion can be purchased with a lunch.

If I say this without any smileys how much work can I create for the mods. :evillaugh:

Nah stuff 'em!

But we all mostly respect the mods relative 'neutral" forms of speech & relative values on the forum.
At the very least they mainly referee & always attempt to keep the balance of free speech whilst working within the parameters of apparent set rulings.
Even perhaps as a separate table named/classified 'judiciary" table, they, at the very least be invited to any auspicious occasion in recognition of their own contributions & well as their titled status.

I'll probably get shot down for saying this, but it does seem that a lot of the same people are going as last year. Why would you need to speak to the same people about FF issues two years in a row?

It is a fair question - there are a fair few who did not attend last year - in the list below the crossed through are last year's attendees (to the best of my recollection):

[-]1- Simongr[/-]
[-]2- Princess Fiona[/-]
3 - V8statesman
4 - pushka
5 - Jock28
[-]6 - Febs[/-]
7 - Skyring
8 - Danny09
9 - Anna
10 - Yo yo ma
11 - Djfuzz
[-]12 - Awilcockson[/-]
13 - Brettmcg
[-]14 - thewinchester[/-]
15 - k_sheep
16 - anat0l
17 - Tooner

So five out of 17 attended last year.

The criteria for eligibility didn't mention that previous attendees would be excluded so if Qantas considered that the questions posed would create the best conversations on the day then previous attendees would be selected.

As far as the moderation goes, I'm in a number of forums and feel the mods here manage the line between freedom of speech, relevance to topic and incidences of personal attack well. Although this is now off topic. In other forums I'm frequently left frustrated at some of the things that get deleted and some of the things that don't.

Well, I haven't been before. In fact it hadn't even crossed my radar that there had been a previous event or events. I may have had my mind on other matters at the time.

The questions requested were those intended to spark discussion. I'll bet that any repeat winners weren't submitting the same questions as they did last year - that's an easy way to be knocked out of the game at the first hurdle.

The air transport business is a volatile one, and Qantas has had many challenges and developments over the past year. The Emirates deal was specifically mentioned in the initial post, and I addressed it in one of my questions, albeit in a tangential way. The experiences of frequent flyers in navigating the changing landscape of airline alliances, various schemes to attract and retain business, innovations and experiments over a year of high volume travel are worth listening to.

We are not the same people we were last year in our experiences, our views, our goals, our desires. Any relationship - and the relationship of a service provider to a customer is as intimate and important as any, especially when they have your bum wedged into a seat for many hours at a time while they carry off thousands of your dollars to the bank - needs work to establish and maintain. The most trivial thing can send a long-term customer off to another embrace. Or draw one in.

Looking at how a particular relationship changes in a year would give Qantas valuable information which could be extrapolated to look at thousands of similar relationships. By excluding those who have previously won would be to throw away gold in relation to trends.

And in the end, it is Qantas making the offer, providing the resources and selecting those who best meet their needs. Their business decision. Their call.

And, wandersen, that was a good and fair question. Thanks for putting it. I'll bet many others were thinking exactly the same!

True Mel_traveller - we had a few that turned up on the day that hadn't announced it last year either (I think - again recollection is a little [-]shirazzy[/-] fuzzy)

Now back to making craft shields for the birthday party prep.

so still another three people (competition says 20) who have received invited but don't know it yet/have not reported it!!

I know who one of them is ;)

I wonder if we will be joined by Emily Howard again, I seem to remember that last year she arrived with the quiet unassuming dignity that befits a lady of her station.

Here were my questions:

1. I've heard that you are trialling iPads for cabin crew to improve recognition of Frequent Flyers and special requests etc. what improvements should we expect to see?

2. With the focus on Asia and alot of the ports being serviced by Qantas Codeshares as opposed to QF operated services (such as Korea, Mumbai, Delhi, Vietnam.etc) how do you propose to keep these Frequent Flyers loyal if there is no FF benefits (Lounge access, Priority checkin & boarding) in these ports?

3. A lot of Frequent Flyers prefer to handle their own bookings via the Qantas website, however the Multi-city booking tool is very outdated on often produces undesirable results and unaligned pricing, can we expect this to be re-developed to work properly and better integration with Emirates and OW partner flights in this tool?

I did notice that... I'd love to know what the questions that each person asked to get 2 invites...

I've just been reading up on the last event in October 2011 so I can be prepared. Sounds like a great event. Also good to pre-empt some faces. And what to wear! That You-tube is fascinating. No women interviewed?:?:
