Change/Clarification of oneword based lounge access

Correct me if I'm wrong but that's a big step backwards, not just from the change late last year but the even tighter restrictions on codeshares. Surely this must require some period of warning.

And what implication does this have for QF F lounge access on flights like the FJ codeshare?

Qantas rules in this case allow access for those, so long as they are on a QF flight number, of course that may change!

I would've guessed for QF Platinums, no difference - they still get access.

For other oneworld Emeralds, no access.

So, SWMBO and I (both QP) are travelling Syd to Fiji on QF codeshare flt next month (March) on the 20th in J on Air Pacific metal. Do we still have access to the J lounge?

Yes, because QANTAS allow access to QANTAS lounges before travel on QANTAS flight numbers by QANTAS WP/SG elites & QP Members (WP get F lounge, SG/QP get J lounge).

This is beyond the oneworld agreements. Note the changes discussed in this thread are not specifically relevant for QP members.

Wait a minute... I am confused. Isn't this actually a loosening of eligibility requirements? It says:

Members of oneworld airline frequent flyer programmes with the equivalent of oneworld Emerald or Sapphire status can use any lounge offered by any oneworld airline when departing on any flight marketed and operated by any oneworld member airline*, no matter in which cabin class they are flying.

What about the thing about a Sapphire member being able to use any lounge?? Does this mean that a Gold QFF can now use an F lounge? I know that on specific airline pages, this is contradicted, but the above information is straight out of the Lounge access page of the Oneworld website:

Lounge access - oneworld

I can see many upset Sapphires at entrances to F lounges.

That's what I thought. *Any lounge offered*!!! Of course, I then thought of WP getting into the Concorde room, or whatever the uber BA lounge is called.

Looks like in order to fix that small typo, they've made the page appear contradictory.

However, I don't believe it does actually contradict itself if you read the section a a whole.
... can use any lounge offered by any oneworld airline ...
To find the types of lounge(s) being offered look below the * note for codeshares, there's this:
  • Emerald tier frequent flyers can use First Class, Business Class or frequent flyer lounges.
  • Sapphire tier frequent flyers are welcome in Business Class or frequent flyer lounges.
  • As an Emerald or Sapphire member, your lounge access is regardless of which cabin you are flying in.
  • Emerald and Sapphire members may invite one guest to join them in the lounge.
... I'm sure that would be what is quoted as the lounges being offered.

An SG can still take one pax in to lounge if both flying OW carrier?.

Since Qantas can with their own elites what there desire, a QF SG can take a guest into an international Qantas business lounge as long as the guest is travelling with the SG.

However, there seems to be another change implied, probably inadvertent.

The last year the oneworld site used to state:
Lounge Access by Tier Status

Emerald: When travelling on any of the oneworld member airlines, any customer who has earned Emerald tier status, is welcome (with one guest travelling on a flight operated and marketed by a oneworld airline) at any oneworld airlines' pre-flight lounges, including First Class, Business Class and frequent flyer lounges regardless of the class they are travelling in.

Sapphire:
When travelling on any oneworld member airline, any customer with Sapphire tier status is welcome (
with one guest travelling on a flight operated and marketed by a oneworld airline) at any oneworld airlines' pre-flight Business Class and frequent flyer lounges regardless of class of travel.
This changed late last year. Now with the new page, the "with one guest travelling on a flight operated and marketed by a oneworld airline" caveat has gone.

Going by this new change on oneworld web site, a (non QF) oneworld sapphire can take a guest into an international oneworld business lounge as long as the guest can access the lounge entrance. The guest does not need to be travelling with the non QFF sapphire member.

Read all this and the Qantas site and the AA site and still find myself unsure.......

So could someone with a more Machiavellian mind let me know

1 Flying Lax - Syd in First on QF12 At this point will be Gold/Sapphire as will become Plat during the flight. We can obviously access the QF lounge at Tom Bradley, which appears to be a joint J/F lounge . Do we also get access to the AA Flagship lounge, or has that gone as a result of this change?

2. If we do get access to the Flagship lounge is that better than the QF lounge and is it relatively quick to get to TBIT from terminal 4, or is it better to just stick with the QF lounge in TBIT?

Flying Mermaid,

AA has an Admirals Club and Flagship Lounge in T4
QF/BA/CX have a Business Lounge and First Lounge in TBIT (they are on the same floor, share showers and entrance and catering but are physically separated).

Unless you are arriving into T4 on AA you won't be able to access the T4 Flagship Lounge. It is generally quieter and can have slightly better hot food and can be used to wait for the half hourly transfer lounge, but generally you are better getting to TBIT early and getting a seat (it tends to get full in the evenings)

Thank-you - this was not at all clear to me - when I clicked on first lounges at the Qantas site it did not come up with anything at LAX. We will be flying into T4 with AA - Miss FM will be flying F from Las Vegas and we will fly in a week later from SFO with a cheap Y ticket (ran out of sectors with the Aone4). However I think the TBIT option sounds less hassle anyway. Thanks for your help. :)

If you are all arriving into T4, then it simply depends on timing.

If you have a few hours - I would spend them in the T4 Flagship Lounge, and then transfer over to TBIT about 90 mins before your flight.

As already mentioned - if you want seats in the TBIT lounge - then you need to be there early (you're not missing much if you don't rush there though)

Miss FM goes back a week before we do, so she arrives into T4 and then flies back to Syd - I think I wold be happier just to tell her to go the TBIT first lounge so I know she doesn't have to fiddle around (she would probably be annoyed at my lack of faith in her!). Mr FM and I go onto SFO/Yosemite for a week and then fly back SFO-LAX on cheap AA tickets. We get into LAx at around 4pm so plenty of time.

1. Why does arriving into T4 with a cheap AA economy ticket from SFO, give me access to the Flagship Lounge (not that I doubt you - just need to understand!)? What will we need to show for access - our First boarding pass + AA boarding pass from SFO?

2 Also when we check in at SFO will they check the baggage thru to SYD and issue boarding passes, given it is 2 different PNRs? If they don't and I need to pick up luggage and check in and get boarding passes in LAX, does that mean no Flagship access?

So many questions! Thank-you for answering them!

Hey everyone,

Just read through the whole thread. Probably a little too quickly and am still a little confused. My Dad is WP and is flying
PER-SIN (QF71) travelling J
SIN-CDG (QF3977) *Codeshare operated by Air France, travelling Y+
CDG-SIN (QF3978) *Codeshare operated by Air France, travelling Y+
SIN-PER (QF78) travelling J

Can someone please tell me which is the best lounge for him to access at CDG on his trip returning home?

Thanks in advance

gogo

1. Because, unless there are airside connections (which a there are not currently between T4 and TBIT, you are not supposed to be able to access airside (where the lounges are) of a terminal you are not departing from.

2. Should be no problem; make sure you have printed copies of all e-tickets available when you check in.

.
Ok I am getting closer to understanding this. So even if I was WP if I checked in at TBIT, then I couldn't use the Flagship lounge? i.e. it is not the new rules that prevent me using the Flagship lounge, but the terminal at which I am checking in?

If you checked in for your TBIT flight in TBIT and walked over to T4 where the Flagship lounge is, TSA will not even let you into the terminal, let alone the lounge dragons.
