Change/Clarification of oneword based lounge access

Thanks I now understand!

Ironically the F lounge in TBIT is usually overcrowded and terribly unexciting, which puts it on par with the J lounge at TBIT, which too is overcrowded and unexciting.

Given the time of day that the QF flights leave, pretty much everyone is zonked out anyway.

Ok I am getting closer to understanding this. So even if I was WP if I checked in at TBIT, then I couldn't use the Flagship lounge? i.e. it is not the new rules that prevent me using the Flagship lounge, but the terminal at which I am checking in?
Yes, after arriving at LAX, if you exit landside from T4, you are not supposed to be able to get back in. Onr to the terminal the flight on your BP is departing from.

Miss FM goes back a week before we do, so she arrives into T4 and then flies back to Syd - I think I wold be happier just to tell her to go the TBIT first lounge so I know she doesn't have to fiddle around (she would probably be annoyed at my lack of faith in her!). Mr FM and I go onto SFO/Yosemite for a week and then fly back SFO-LAX on cheap AA tickets. We get into LAx at around 4pm so plenty of time.

1. Why does arriving into T4 with a cheap AA economy ticket from SFO, give me access to the Flagship Lounge (not that I doubt you - just need to understand!)? What will we need to show for access - our First boarding pass + AA boarding pass from SFO?

2 Also when we check in at SFO will they check the baggage thru to SYD and issue boarding passes, given it is 2 different PNRs? If they don't and I need to pick up luggage and check in and get boarding passes in LAX, does that mean no Flagship access?

So many questions! Thank-you for answering them!

As Serfty has already answered above.... If you go landside - you can not get back into T4.

When you arrive at LAX T4 (from SFO on AA)you get access to the T4 Flagship Lounge based on your International F Boarding Pass.

Check in at SFO exactly as Serfty has said. I have done this several times and will do it again in a couple of weeks (Connect from SFO on cheap Y fare and then onto QF J). AA will tag bags right through and give you both Boarding Passes.

Flying Mermaid,
I enjoy the ambience of the Flagship Lounge in T4 for a while, then head on over to TBIT. The Duty Free selection is much better at TBIT, and given the state of the AUD some things are better to buy there than on arrival in Australia.

Also, I prefer the showers at T4. Nicer toiletries available, & not as long a wait in the late afternoon / evening. It's tough having 2 lounges to choose from. After being away from home I enjoy the Aussie voices around me in the TBIT.

I think I get access based on my Amex WP, my WP, my QP, and also my AA 1st BP for incoming flight. Have been trying to clarify all this recently. WP & 1st get me into Flagship, all get me into Admirals Club.

Could be wrong..

WP gets you into Flagship. As does International F.

AA domestic F on it's own will not get you into Flagship (or A/C) unless it's 3 class transcon in F or Z inventory.

Ah, my bad. Still trying to clarify when I enter. Get different responses from diff people there. Problem probably is too many cards. :D
Think I just miss you in the US!

Thanks everyone! I was so fixated on trying to understand the rules I lost track of the physical difference in location! However it appears because we are fortunately flying into T4, we can go to the Flagship lounge, so that is what we will do and then move over to TBIT 90 minutes prior. Only 99 days to go (not that I am counting....)

So this should mean as an AA plat I should be able to access a domestic J lounge.I wouldn't bet on it though.
  • Emerald tier frequent flyers can use First Class, Business Class or frequent flyer lounges.
  • Sapphire tier frequent flyers are welcome in Business Class or frequent flyer lounges.
  • As an Emerald or Sapphire member, your lounge access is regardless of which cabin you are flying in.
  • Emerald and Sapphire members may invite one guest to join them in the lounge.

Oh do DROP IT DAVE!! I mean drron ;)

QF should simply name the J lounge the "premium" lounge and the problem is solved.

Sapphires get access across the alliance to the standard lounge, Emeralds get the better lounge - end of discussion.

Of course as an AA plat - you get no access to AA lounges (unless flying Int) ;)
