Change to pre-departure champagne in First class?

Most of these threads are about the label.

Krug or Dom or Moet as pre-departure champagne. Why care which one and make such a fuss?

JohnK the fisherman, I will bite ;)

Can you taste the difference between Coke, Pepsi, kirks cola or plain label cola etc

Or do you drink tea - Liptons, Bushels, tynetips, twinings?

Maybe coffee? Instant, plunger, percolated or espresso?

What about beef - a hamburger, sausage, blade steak, rump steak, rib, or eye fillet.

Do you have a preference? (Of course I know you don't but everyone else I know does.)

Just like many other things, different Champagne's taste different.

Do you smoke?

Used to smoke but gave up a long time ago.

Lamb chops fried in vegetable oil and added salt and lemon is the best tasting food in the world. And bread to mop up the remains on the plate is just as nice.

Now all the things you mention make a difference but when I ask for tea onboard I couldn't care what brand of tea they served and I certainly wouldn't make a fuss.

Coke zero, diet coke, coke light, pepsi max all taste roughly the same. Who cares what's onboard at the time?

If they served hamburger/pizza on board similarly I couldn't care less what type of hamburger/pizza they served.

You see? I don't understand the fuss about champagne/beer/gin/vodka/whiskey that is served on board. What you buy for home use is a different story!

On this we disagree, I don't think that these colas taste the same and if the one I prefer is not available I would rather go without. So I care what is onboard. If what I like was advertised as available on my flight and then when I boarded I was told it was not I would care. If it was a treat I really liked (or wanted to try) and was looking forward to but then found out I couldn't have, I would care.

yes I see. From what I see, everyone interested in this thread topic has been told (by you) you don't understand. As you don't understand the fuss, why not leave those who do, to their fussing ? Your position is clear, no one interested in this topic will forget.

I see that nothing posted in this thread will change your position on Champagne, (that's ok) so at what point are you just baiting everyone?

(You could start a thread "I don't understand all the fuss about Champagne")

You miss the point. You could put Krug and Dom in empty coke bottles and I would still know they were a quality champagne. The label identifies them but it doesn't define them.

Well, if one is limiting themselves to X glasses or to try and be sensible with alcohol I'd rather drink the best product(obviously subjective) available. as in if they're only going to have Moet for PDB but something better in flight like Dom or Krug, then I'd rather have a glass of water or juice and wait...

I guess that probably comes across as a bit snobby? Maybe so but after being lucky enough to taste a number of premium Champagnes(for example) on various carriers I know what I like and appreciate and would prefer to drink. For example if I'm offered a Moet Brut or a Mumm black label, I'll go the Mumm every time as I happen to think it's a better drop. That's just me.

now sure, if I'm given a PDB and it's what I consider a label I would rather not have then I don't have to, but I'm the sort of person who I was brought up to have what they're given and not waste, so I ask(unless I see the bottle :) ) because I'd rather enjoy a drink then either be disappointed or leave it.

Am I going to kick up a stink on a plane and be a PITA like the KE "Nut Princess" or those people who flew into a rage and demanded to be offloaded because the XL PJ's weren't available in F.. no of course not.. I'll make choices appropriate for me... I don't think I'm that precious about this stuff, but then again being lucky enough to be in a premium cabin I think it's reasonable to want the best available in that cabin as it's part of the offered product which I've paid for in one way or another. However I'm hardly going to sneer at a FA or some other kind of snobby reaction because of the Champagne on offer. A simple yes please, or no thank you works just fine for me :)
