By the way, QF8 as the BNE-SYD connection can be a good option to experience both BNE and SYD FLounges. The only problem is the 5am check-in

The other problem with QF8 is that if the DFW-BNE inbound flight is delayed then so is the BNE-SYD flight. At least if you catch a domestic terminal BNE-SYD flight then you have lots of fall back options. I missed my onward flight to HKG from SYD last week because of QF8 being delayed to pick up passengers from a diverted LAX-SYD flight. I vowed to never again catch QF8...

I've only done this once, back in late Feb IIRC, we were delayed due to QF8 being diverted for a proactive pit stop due to very poor weather in BNE at the time. Only made the booking as we had ample time to connect....6 odd hours. I don't think I would book this flight if I had less than 4 hours to connect.

Always wondered if they would ship connecting passengers over to DOM - now I know!

Good on paper - not so good in practice.

Got to agree. My one attempt at QF8 failed and I ended up last-minuting a regular domestic flight

I was already sat on QF8 so no ability to transfer over to DOM. Might be possible if you haven't already gone through immigration but I'd avoid that flight like the plague!

Its not too much of an effort to reclear formalities in such circumstances, I have had to do it three times when my INT flight was not going to happen and I was booked to SYD ex BNE.

Here is a recent photo of the BNE QF First lounge and they offer a bit of a table service menu:

What time & day of the week was that? Did you still get into the J Lounge?

Fog & diversions can lead to a lot of messy situations. I'd say it would've been likely that the decision to hold the QF8 would've happened later rather than sooner so it woud've been too late to offload pax (& luggage) without causing further delays to the already late QF8.

IIRC when QF8 diverted to NOU or NAN the same crew continued on to BNE so the delay wasn't huge however when it was diverted to AKL on another occasion there was a significant delay so pax were rebooked on domestic services & res did a call out so pax originally booked on QF8 BNE/SYD knew in advance to go to the domestic terminal for their new flight.

No two scenarios will be the same however I think it's fair to say that if it's possible they will transfer people to domestic flights so it's not a case of once you're booked on QF8 you're stuck with it.

In our case the delay was around 1.5 hours so not a major disaster.......unless of course it ruins your stay in the Flounge:-|

IMO, this is a good option for longish connections only......if lounges are not your thing, YMMV!

It is definitely nothing like the F lounge in SYD or MEL.

However, I did notice this morning that the spirit selection has grown considerably, and the woeful Jim Beam has been accompanied by Wild Turkey :)

And here I was looking forward to a nice wild turkey to while away the hours before my 29 hours in whY/whY+ hell. Except for some reason I was directed to the QP rather than the F lounge today, so I'm stuck with the awesome choice of Jim Beam or water ... Think I'll stick to the water.

Does anyone know the access rules for the F lounge, did I not get in because my first leg is "only" in whY+ ?

The F lounge only opens certain hours. When is your flight?

F Lounge should be open, that when the daily BNE-SIN departs, I've been on that flight alot and F is always open.
Sounds like u got the run around from the Dragon Person:-)

ive caught QF8 to syd then QF127 to HKG 3-4 times now, been pretty lucky, never had a problem.

in your case, did QF try to arrange other flights for you if you missed your QF127?

By the way, managed to get into the F lounge ... Noticed there was a new dragon on duty, went downstairs, turned around and came back up and was directed to the right lounge (which is on the left :) )

Strange. Perhaps it opened after you got there ... (I'm being nice to the dragons ;) )
