I went out to dinner at La Poetas, a couple of km away on the edge of town, not knowing what to expect, but it was very good, and I probably should’ve prepared better.
Very close to it was a Hacienda looking place Hotel Vendimia Parador; I googled it and it came up and it looked really really good. I checked out the website and it was not hugely expensive so I walked up to the front door and with great difficulty because they had zero English, I booked a room for the two nights after tonight.
More on it later.
The Poetas specialise in seafood, and it wasn’t all that expensive in the portions were very large. 10,000 CLP is $17
I started with shrimp pilpil which turned out to be essentially garlic prawns and there was a lot of them with a delicious garlic sauce. No pic.
For mains, I had tuna Easter island style, and I asked them to suggest an accompliment and they did which was probably a mistake. The so-called accompliment overwhelmed the dish and it was probably two or three times more than I could eat. Yhat’s the tuna steak peeking out from under the eggs.
It was still light and nice and warm, and it was a very good setting.
Back to Casa Pando for the night and I settled in but had another really really bad night sleep due to bloody barking dogs all over the place, but especially across the road, right in front of my room.
Next morning, I packed and told my host that I was checking out, unfortunately because of the noise. I said I’ll be happy to pay for my entire stay if he wanted, but he only charged me for the one night.
So I packed my bags, put them in my car and then had breakfast and waited for the driver of a tour I’ve arranged of a couple of wineries to arrive.
My luck was about to turn for the better.
