China Airlines reward seats using Qantas points

Thank you to those above who helped. Successfully grabbed 5 x Busienss/J class seats from KIX to TPE. Then TPE to MEL staying in Taipei for a few days.

Having similar issues with booking seats. Using the app I can see and find them, but under seats says “unavailable”. Emailed MELB CI office and was advised you can not select seats in J class until 48 hours before the flight? Is this correct and other current experiences?

“Thank you for contacting China Airlines.
China Airlines booking reference number is the same as Qantas. However, the passengers who book the tickets via Qantas are only able to access their booking 48 hours before the flight departure so we can not allocate the seats for you.

Please visit our website 48 hours before the flight departure for online check-in and seat selection. Thank you.

Kind regards,

China Airlines Melbourne Branch”
I simply downloaded the china airlines app and selected my seats through that.

How long do you need to wait after getting the e-ticket from Qantas. I got the ticket yesterday but in the CI app it’s still showing unavailable at the seat selection, cannot manage via CI airline website as well.
Thanks in advance.

I have followed this steps but the seat section is showing unavailable.
I got an email response from CI said will it will be unlocked 48hrs before flight departure time.

That's odd, several months ago it was an option. Rather off putting to book CI again if this is new policy as I like to book seats asap. That being said my flights in Premium Economy were great.

I'd recommend checking on a weekly basis to see if the option becomes available.

Just tried to book my seat on Czech airlines and it works. just need to use tools like expert flyer to make sure the selected seat is not occupied yet as czech airlines seat map is just showing all seats are available to pick😃.

Thanks everyone help

Does anyone know if QF or CI's baggage policy applies on QF booked tickets?

I'm looking at an economy ticket. QF says 30kg allowance, CI, however, the allowance is 2 x 23kg bags. I'm assuming since it's a direct CI plane both ways the CI policy would apply?

The baggage allowance of the operating carrier always applies.

The Czech Airlines seat booking route isn't working for me. It shows all seats as unavailable currently. My flight isn't for a while, so I'll keep checking closer to the date.

I came here because I had the same issue with being unable to select a seat for my QF CR in J on the China Airlines website or app. The Czech Airlines website worked. Thanks, everyone, and AFF!

Thank you for the Czech Air hack. Managed to select seats for one leg, proving problematic for the next leg. I’ll try again when I do.
