Is Google returning to China? - Appears so

I am in China now until Saturday, but just now cannot get any google services to work, including maps, including if it try to go directly to the .com.hk version.

I guess time will tell.......

News to me - which carrier?

Was working 2 weeks ago via Telstra international roaming.

I had a travel pack, 14 days for $140 includes unlimited calls and sms to and from Australia and 700mb of data.

From memory you roam on China mobile.

All google services including maps. Facebook also only worked via data roaming.

Mogul doesn't make sense - I am not sure what carrier Telstra piggy back off but Vodafone use China Unicom - definitely no Google of any description - Facebook? Nah totally blocked on all carriers to best my knowledge - you sure you were in China?

Yes we were definitely in China.

Maybe carrier specific?

Some friends of ours were there the week before and had access to Facebook via Telstra roaming.

Were you using a VPN? 3 carriers in China - China Telecom, China Mobile and China Unicom - Facebook blocked on all carriers - List of blocked sites in China

There was talk they were going to allow Facebook in selected areas of some cities (like in free trade zones and some specific trade zone in Shanghai). Not sure what happened to that idea.

Worked in Shanghai, Yuyao and Hangzho.

All my phone photos were geotagged via google maps.

Up in Harbin, at the moment I can use the mail app on my iPhone to access my Gmail accounts. All the other regularly blocked websites are still down however.

As blocked as ever. Even FB messenger doesn't work sans VPN, except that if you have the mobile/tablet app, an alert with the first couple of lines will come up.
