I am about to book an upcoming flight on Qatar airways SYD DOH return in March. I'll be flying "Economy convenience" for both.

I'm WP on both QF and VA. Which do you recommend I put in my FF number for? What are the benefits I need to weigh up? Is it simply a matter of where I want to earn points?

It’s really where you want to earn the points.

That said, I think the benefits may be cleaner using your QF status as the system will recognise it as oneworld. There have been some mixed reports about VA status glitches, although I imagine that wouldn’t happen out of SYD. But you won’t get anything extra on VA that you wouldn’t get on QF.

When I did it using QF I was treated very well, including a CSM greeting and a shadow seat.

I’d check what fare class your flights would earn on velocity compared to QFFF and credit to whichever earns more

Find which program offers the best outcome for points and what suits you best.
QF should give you better lounge access in SYD but in DOH you get the same lounge. Not sure if VA have fixed issues such as seat selection etc but personally I’d use QF
