Christmas in Bangkok.

Back over the express way and I decided to walk at ground level. For about half of the walkway there is a road beside the klong.
Fascinating as this is the old Bangkok. The klong has regular concrete arches over it that the locals take full advantage of.

Even it seems that the washing is done there.

Some build a path on top of the concrete.

Whilst some construct a drive way using 2 arches.

This area will probably come alive tonight.

And possibly some one who worked at the Conrad lives here.

We then had sukiyaki for dinner. Mrsdrron had ribeye beef and I had pork.1F185C84-85F3-4240-928A-A2CF9F306508.jpeg

A dessert was included with a choice of ice cream with nuts and chocolate sauce or a Kyoto grape slushy. As we both love Kyoto grapes it was the slushy for us.

It was beautiful.

I’m in Bangkok here . Cool weather. Where exactly Is Johnk ? Went to mbk today . MR DIY didn’t have much at all .
Someone suggested Samyeng market . Going there tommorow morn .
@JohnK is here.

I was going to suggest markets would be the best place to check and sounds like you have found some bargains.

Otherwise Chinatown is worth a look. Also department stores such as Big C, Tesco, Tops but choice would be limited. Thai Watsadu may also be worth a look.

We may spend some time in our house in Chiang Mai next year over Christmas/New Year and our daughter is keen to have a Christmas tree and other decorations but I'm worried how locals would react. Way too much jealousy.

breakfast at 0900 to 0930
I have major first world problems with “included” hotel buffet breakfasts. I can never do breakfast at 0900 because lunch and dinner gets pushed back as I don’t feel like eating at the usual times after a big breakfast.

So the choices are:
1) Don’t sleep in and do the buffet at 0630.
2) Or 0930 and push back lunch till maybe 3 or 4pm /dinner even later.
3) Or 0930 and miss lunch.
4) Or very light breakfast like at home but effectively pay for buffet (when it’s included in price).
condensed milk is an Asian thing in general
Why have milk and sugar when it’s all combined into one. Lasts a long time as well

Also went to khlong Tom?? near sampeng market for decorative lights .

Back to the TR and the food over the last two days. I love curries and can eat them with every meal. Not often though that you get a good choice but here at the Mayfair Apartments there are 3 to choose from at breakfast.
So the choices on Friday were different from the usual 3 Indian dishes with two Thai curries.

Delicious.
This morning it was back to 3 Indian dishes but with my favourite two on the left.

On Friday evening we went back to the rooftop bar for some Thai food. The Khao Soi here is the best I have found in Bangkok. It is a northern dish - a curry with noodles and chicken.

Mrsdrron had the Pad Thai with river prawns.
The problem was that it took forever for our meals to arrive so they were lukewarm. Not likely to give them another chance as plenty of choice in Bangkok.

We had gone to the rooftop bar a little earlier than usual so a different view with the light. It does look out over a few Embassies. First the USA then the Netherlands.

And the pigeon embassy.

Also a few new hotels with the Kimpton and Kempinski just over the road.

And near the Netherlands embassy is the Indigo hotel. Close to it is the older Conrad just showing behind the building on the right.

After our early dinner and a couple of wines back in the apartment I went for a walk to see the Christmas lights. A lot less than I thought I would see. So first along the local street up to Central Chid Lom.

Labourers being picked up after their day's work. There were a few buses which looked like prison vehicles picking up from other sites.

Now the walk back on the other side of the road. Came across another Christmas market.

It was a bit too busy to stay too long. So I pressed on and then there was the Royal Thailand Police Headquarters. Lots of razor wire.

Now on to Christmas Eve. Walked across the street and had our usual of mushroom pizza and a glass of wine each. In fact as the waitress was seating us she said “so a mushroom pizza and a Sav Blanc and sir do you want the same red wine as the last time?” So I changed just to be difficult. o_O

Back at the apartment and a few snacks and more wine. My new bottle.
