Christmas in Bangkok.

You do hear some interesting things in a lounge. There was a group of young Americans next to us all drinking tequila. They were talking about military matters and they all had the appropriate hair style. They had been flown into Japan on a mission and then on to Singapore. Don’t know where next but it wasn’t home.

Then another group of Americans and Aussies who had just arrived from cruise. One American was in trouble because he said he had heard that Melbourne was the friendliest city in Australia but he found that Sydney was much friendlier. A woman from Melbourne was then giving him a hard time suggesting he was a Trump supporter. He was very polite in his response saying yes he was from the south but Georgia had just elected a Democrats to the Senate.

I was up getting another drink and told him we loved America and had been to all 50 states and found Southerners friendly than Aussies. That finished the conversation and he did look pleased.

Then back to the room and to sleep as we had to catch up on the missed sleep from the night before.

After breakfast went to the Tanglin mall. Needed to get some deodorant as we had forgotten to bring any. Think it is going to take a while for us to get match fit. It was about twice the price of home.

There are a couple of really good supermarkets there. Again quite dear. Really good meat. Huge tomahawk steak and a nice selection of hams.

Are you planning to visit the orchid gardens ?

We were but the weather forecast is for storms and rain for the next week.
Also planned for the Gardens by the Bay and that also may not happen.

So tonight we went to the Summer Palace for dinner. A Michelin starred Cantonese restaurant. Beautiful food though a little pricey.

The wine list also expensive. Didn’t really feel like paying $S33000 for a 1982 Chateau Latour. Only 8 choices of wine by the glass. Only 2 Sav Blancs on the list so we had the Leuwin Estate SB.
An amused Boucher of a cherry tomato which was excellent

As Mrsdrron doesn’t do spicy I was given a selection of chilli sauces

First dish was crispy pork. Delicious.

Then soft shell crab. Devine.

Lemon chicken with almonds. Again excellent.

Last mushroom with sugar peas.

Was it worth it. Definitely. Would we do it again. Probably not.

The night didn’t go well. Mrsdrron felt tired and wanted to go to bed so I gave her the key and off she went. However she was soon back saying she couldn’t get into the room even though the key had got her to our floor in the lift.

So I finished the wine and signed the bill. As I got up I saw her fall to the floor. She wasn’t responsive when I got to her and doesn’t remember what happened. So whether she knocked herself out or passed out will have to be investigated.

She has a red lump above her left eye, a very sore left shoulder and a very sore back. So our lunch tomorrow is in doubt.

Not a good way to start a holiday.

Oh No. Please get better real quick Mrsdrron. Maybe just fatigue from the travel and a big rich dinner, and slightly dehydrated. I know I can't eat much these days without it leaving me almost unwell so maybe it's something simple like that.

Let's not forget the "elephant in the room" 🤣

OMG! I hope @mrs.dr.ron gets well very soon ... as @Pushka suggested, I'd say it's perhaps just travel fatigue or perhaps change in water ...

Oh so sorry to hear that. I have been there too while overseas and it's no fun. I wish you both the best. At least it's a decent place to do such things.
