So our 7 night cruise has become a 3 night cruise and 4 night land trip based in Strasbourg which was supposed to be in three days time. We miss Rudesheim entirely. Tomorrow will be 7 hours of mixed travel to get to the ship which is basically stuck in Strasbourg. That ships passengers are doing the reverse and will end up in our boat. Apparently we are to be compensated. Tonight we pack.

Oh. And there is a separate group of cruisers who expect to be on the new ship on the last night we are there. Be interested to see how that plays out.

Glad you had some cash with you - it does come in handy sometimes especially if you need the loo ;)

Are they offering any compensation or is it too soon to ask

Good luck with whatever happens - I hope they put you somewhere nice in Strasbourg. I suspect it's heaving right now with people coming for the Christmas markets. I really enjoyed Strasbourg and you might even get to see some of the old villages around Colmar.

Well, water current is too strong for your ship to go up the river.
So in this situation the only solution to continue your cruise is the reverse, flow with the current down.

I am sorry to hear of the disruption to your cruise, but still happy that they didn't cancel at all. It is not complete disaster, and hope that you enjoy the remainder an amazing cruise experience now in reverse. ... and you still will see the castles.. 🍀🍀🤞

Not helpful. Not how this forum works. 😏
Sorry Pushka,

It is not my intention to make you miserable.
As a retired engineer and enthusiastic "water tourist" have knowledge that can explain disruption to your cruise.

River's conditions are dependent on the weather, and hence disruption to your cruise, although not catastrophic.

In summer or autumn disruptions could be catastrophic due to lack of rain and low water levels in the river.

Wish you good luck for the remnant of your cruise and also nice weather. 🍀🤞😊

What a bummer Pushka. Actually if you have to miss somewhere Rudesheim would be my pick. 😀 I remember sweet white wine and a strange musical museum there as well as a dodgy mini train.

That isn’t what we are doing. We haven’t seen the boat we are doing the castles in so I’m suspending excitement.

Well where we are going, to get to the other three places we are supposed to go to involves a four hour road trip now. Transporting 200 people each time. That’s three buses. It’s yet to play out.

We stayed in Rudesheim for quite some time in the ‘80’s and were wanting to see it again. The market is very popular.

I’m Debbie Downer today. Even the crew are describing our day today as arduous. The crew were hugging the CD who is coming with us. We won’t have internet for the day so I’m out for now.

Oh that totally sucks @Pushka. How unlucky for you.

I hope you are able to make the best of it, and that they compensate you handsomely.

Your photos so far are spectacular, and it made me very happy to relive my market visits last year after seeing yours.

I hope that they will put you on another ship and travel down the river with the current...🤔

There is a lot of castles to see from the river. See the map, and also website link to see names and photos.
Hope that you will travel down the river. 🍀🍀🤞

but at least you have a boat. Few years ago they canceled the trip mid river and off loaded everyone onto busses. I believe there was a court action over this.

Yes that involved Scenic. The case was finalised in the middle of this year.
Scenic had to pay $23 million in damages and $3 million for the applicants legal fees.

They didn't cancel cruises they knew could not operate, sound familiar, and instead provided a "second rate bus tour"
