Citi launching new Signature card

Would much rather stick with Centurion and get my 1.5/$1 earn with 1:1 transfer.

I was half interested but the only thing it gives me above the Amex Plat charge is the ability to earn QFF points on Visa purchases...

Am I correct in that this card has a good conversion to SQ. 3 points equal 2 Kris flier miles, so $1.50 equals 2 krisflyer points. this is a good conversion for a visa card.

From the standpoint of someone who is primarily interested in QF points and travel insurance cover I'm underwhelmed by this offer as I was expecting at least $1 to 1.5 QF points for it to be competitive with the Amex platinum charge card. The other features don't seem to even equal the Amex ones. I currently have a Citi Platinum card and this offer gives me no incentive to upgrade.

I'm going to start paying a lot of tax through my CC and I need a card that has a high QF points ratio and either a high points cap or no cap. As I see it now my best option is the Amex platinum charge at 1.5 QF per dollar up to $200,000 with the accompanying free Amex platinum credit card covering another $100,000 at the same rate.

Then I could get a CitiBusiness Gold card at 1.25 QF per dollar to cover expenses that can't be put on Amex.

The value of this card I think will depend on whether or not you want direct earn to QF. Uncapped earning is about the only concession here for a Visa card with QF direct earn - but you'd need a high spend to justify the annual fee.

I gave QF the flick when direct earn was forced upon me last year. So for me, Velocity or KF transfers are 1.33/$1, or up to 1.66/$1 during the regular 25% bonus promos from Velocity. That's not too shabby.

SPG transfers could make the card worthwhile, depending on the transfer rate. SPG opens up transfer options to about 30 other airline FF programs.

Everything else is fairly standard fare. I might look a bit closer at it if the SPG rate is decent.

This card could be good value. All depends on the transfer rate to SPG. Couldnt find any spg transfer information on the citibank website and the call center didnt know either. Does anyone have this info?

Yes that's a good point. I wasn't familiar with the SPG program but if its $1 = 2 Citi Points = 2 SPG Points = 2 Emirates points that might be attractive on an uncapped spend.

Well about to ditch my Citi Platinum but might email them and say i will stay if I can redeem to SPG from my plat account..Paying $700 just for SPG points seems a bit excessive for my situation.

For anyone who takes up this card, I would be very interested to know what the customer service is like.
Cheers

After being shuffled around to a couple of different areas and spending a while on hold I finally managed to get the points conversion rate for the Citi Select card:

2 Citi Rewards Points = 1 Velocity Point
2 Citi Rewards Points = 1 Krisflyer Mile
2 Citi Rewards Points = 1 Asiamiles point
3 Citi Rewards Points = 1 SPG point

So it's basically 1 point per dollar for all the airline programs and 0.66 points per dollar for the SPG transfer. For a Visa card it's not too shabby, but given the upfront cost of the card you'd want to be putting a fair amount of transactions through to make it worthwhile.

Thanks for doing that research. Makes this card entirely unappealing to me.

Does anyone know if there are any changes to say Bonus Partners affecting the new signature card???? The website isn't very forthcoming...

Umm.. am I missing something?

Everyone is bagging this card, but at first glance, I think this card is not too bad.

Sure, the annual fee is high at $700, but no higher than an Amex Platinum charge card at $900.

With unlimited earn and 1:1 conversion to many airline frequent flyer programs, it's like having a Visa version of an Amex card.
With a Visa card however, there is the added bonus of it being accepted by more merchants than Amex. Therefore, it's easier to earn points!

I for one, may even consider giving up my free-for-life Platinum Visa with it's pissy 150K points cap, for the new Signature card.

As I stated previously, am I missing something?

I also think this card could be handy for those who travel mostly in economy. The advantages are that the takeflight citi program can be taking advantage with 2 points per dollar converion, while gaining access to lounges via complementary priority pass.

Umm.. am I missing something?

Probably not. People tend to view it from tehir own point of view, and cretainly from my point of view, the value is not there.

For people that benefit from the uncapped nature of the rewards program and would use the other features (Priority Pass etc), it could well be useful. You may well be in that group of people.

Citi's world famous customer service perhaps?

For $290 you can get the NAB QF Platinum card and get 1.5 points per $ on the Amex card, and .66 points per $ on the Visa, with no points capping on either card.

If I value a FF point as 1c then even if I only used the NAB Visa card I would have to spend over $154545 to start to make the higher cost worth while with Citibank.

Now if you could have a more even spread of say 50:50 Amex to Visa then the NAB card would on average earn more points than the Signature Card.

If you spend a bit with QF then you can also get a bonus point per $ spent.

I just don't see how this card will stack up except for those with exceptionally high spending, but then if this spending could be put through on an amex card then you could actually earn more points on the alternatives out there, and your annual fee would be lower too.
