Agreed Dr Ralph, I was just rejected (today) too. I've churned approx 60 cards over 18 years (lagging behind you a little!!) and this was my third refusal overall. My first was Virgin, then AMEX now Citi and I have been approved with all 3 prior. I wondered whether NAB has it in for me but I was approved for Qantas Platinum 3 months ago...AMEX told me that it was frequency of applications but Citi and Virgin gave me a very similar laundry list of what it 'could' be. The heady days seem to be over....oh well, I've done well over the years, I cannot complain at all.

Virgin and Qantas are both NAB partner (ex Citi) and seem to be applying the Citi rules. Plenty of anecdotal evidence that suggest not more than one application in 6 months was applied by Citi and still seems to be in play.

Strange then, I got my Qantas card approved about a month after my Virgin card was denied...then cancelled that Q card about 9 months ago. Who knows...

In my case denied at 4 months accepted at 6 for Virgin.

But I’m not totally surprised that credit providers have caught on that frequent applications quite likely mean you are either churning or are badly in debt (using one CC to pay another). Both are loss makers to the CC company!
