I suspect they probably look to limit their maximum exposure to you.

Correct, I had a BoQ card (also issued by Citi) when I applied for Citi Select. They called me and said I'd need to drastically reduce my BoQ limit if I want the Select - as it happens I didn't use the BoQ card at all so just cancelled it and that was fine.

Recently was in BCN had had my first experience if Select being compromised. Logged on one day and saw a AD1,208 odd transaction for Vueling Airlines Definiteley not my transaction so called up Citi and immediately cancelled card leaving me with further 2.5 weeks in Europe with no main CC.

CSO at Citi informs me a replacement card will arrive in MEL in 5 to 10 working days - not much help huh?

<snip>

That's quite a string of bad luck :-(

Did you press them at all about the replacement card? Back when I only had CBG a stop was placed on the card due to possible compromise of a merchant I'd transacted with (i.e. it was just precautionary) while I was in travelling overseas. At the time Citi offered to "courier" a replacement card to me, with 2-3 day arrival time, despite the fact I was in a fairly remote part of the world (Phu Quoc island in Vietnam).

I can't remember if I had to complain at all to get this offer - and it was two years ago - but it seems strange I was offered this with a CBG but you weren't with a Select.

I just had my citi select card replaced (lost) and in the new welcome kit it says:

Credit Fees and Charges: $0 while you are a Citigold client. The standard annual primary cardholder fee, currently $700, will apply if you are no longer a Citigold client.

Not a bad benefit IMO!

If it is free, they need to update their website: Citigold
Under credit card, it still says $350

anyone get a survey from stokesmichewski about their select card? looks like it's going to get re-vamped more in the style of amex (3 pts/$1 for certain things, reduced rate for normal earn)...

That would almost certainly be the death knell if they kept the fee at such a high level.

In fact, unless the high earning merchants with Select were widespread and different to the high earners with Amex, I wouldn't see the point of Select at all.

I also hope they've taken into account the fact that Amex MR points generally transfer 1:1 to airline programmes. ie as things stand my Amex Plat Edge (annual fee $149) earns 3 FF pts per $ at supermarkets, which is equivalent to 4.5 Citi Select pts.

I could no longer see any transactiom history on my account so another call to Citi where they informed me no data will be visible until replacement card 'Activated' - what a bummer - i cannot see if any more ficticious trandactions occurred.

As a holder of a Citibusiness Gold I'm allowed 99 Additional Cardholders (free) while Select are allowed 4 Additional Cardholders (free).

I've managed to get an additional card under my own name for travel purposes. It's still under the same name but I assume if it goes missing at least the invoices automatically charged to my credit card every month will hopefully be unaffected.

It might be worth a shot to prevent this in the future?

With many credit cards, if one card is compromised, all cards on the same account get cancelled. In some cases that's because additional cardholders have the same number as the primary cardholder - and from memory I think that is the case with Citi Select. I assume that's not the case with business accounts though.

Strangely, even if the additional cards have a different number, that may not solve the problem. For example if you have a Westpac Black Amex/MC combo, and either the Amex or MC is compromised, they cancel both - I know because this has happened to me 3 times!! That might just be Westpac policy though, I'm not sure.

My wife's supplementary Select has a different number to mine.

Well. My solution is potentially to be ignored then :P

Or maybe not - see legroom's response above! As I said though, different numbers doesn't necessarily mean you could cancel one card and not the other. Anyone had experience of this situation with Citi?

My Select had to be replaced twice in the past six months, once Citi initiated as they thought the card may have been compromised and another being left at the last petrol station before Bordeaux airport.
Thankfully the other three cards were not affected on the account.

yes, I have just finished this survey and came to AFF to see if others had got it too.
There was no secrecy note that I saw so I feel happy to blurt it here.
There was a bewildering range of scenarios mostly involving variable points per sector spend....much like Amex. There were also strange choices where points went to Virgin and you got Qantas lounge passes and vice versa. Also there were a lot of choices involving Citi "premier miles" but there was no explanation what that was.
i am pretty sure I didn't mark any of them better than current arrangement.

I think there was probably some tricks going on so they could isolate the particular benefits you rated higher. On the whole I also said I didn't like them, however they piqued my interest on 6 pts/$ with fee free intl transactions, which is my primary use now ATO is gone.

i assume they tracked the click through to award the 5k points for participating, however my card is '100% personal usage' so not too fussed about them ID'ing me.

I finished the survey yesterday, It was not clear whether premier miles was meant to be in place of the normal transfer to krisflyer/asiamiles etc with current citibank rewards programme. It would be a big backward step if they brought something like this in even with fee free international transactions.

It was too tough on my IPad in Ireland so I will have another shot at the survey when we get back home to London or Perth.

Not defining "premier miles" was a major fail. I was waiting for the comments section at the end to give them a serve. But there wasn't one :(
