Citibank "4th night free" perk

If they use switchfly, its likely the prices showing up on amex travel online portal is the same as ones the concierge can access. Just some of the hotels are oddly missing.

I've just called concierge for So/ Paris Hotel for 4 nights between 27/09/23 to 01/10/23 and found the concierge quoted price is exactly the same as the amex travel online price..

hi guys, was wondering if you make this booking and then cancel your citibank card before the booking then you cant get this deal, am I right? I assume you have to pay for the hotel upon checkout with the citi bank card?

The one time I did it the room was charged immediately, and I received the credit within a few weeks. Being prepaid I assume you would be ok unless you want to change something

FYI:

Also, please be reminded of the following:
**For Citi Prestige Visa cardholders: You will be charged for 3 nights only.
You can check the hotels available in via www.hotels.com.au

**For Citi Prestige Mastercard cardholders: You will be charged 4 nights and receive a credit for the 4th night. Please note that you will only receive the credit within 6-8 weeks from completion of full payment and stay.
You may check the list of participating hotels via www.expedia.com.au for reference only. Please call us once you have selected your preferred hotel so we can apply the 4th Night Free benefit.

This is what I expected but not what happened as per my post above

Let me show you what a cowboy outfit Citibank Concierge are - see below here what is contained in Citibank emails (except Auto reply):

You would probably think the contact phone number for Citibank Concierge is +61 2 8225 0042? WRONG - call that number and they tell you no this is not Concierge but I can give you their contact number! FFS

The number they last gave me is below.

Yep. Pointed that out to them a while ago. Should have just told the dog as it would have been easier.

They gave me the right number that rang out all afternoon. After emailing them, someone eventually called. When pointing out that the phone number wasn’t working, the response was “oh, I was wondering why it was so quiet”.

This is a fine operation 🙄

can confirm i had the same experience on a booking with a free cancellation as well.

Looks like a subtle change in the terms for this. Now says “participating hotels” rather than all hotels. Looking at a property in India that’s on Expedia but not Amex (I believe the system Citi uses). Emailed but no response. I’ll give them a call this afternoon to check.

*edit* - can confirm they no longer use Expedia so it's their system or nothing

Does anybody know if this is an ongoing perk? I note that in the T&C for the 4th night free it indicates stays must be booked between 1 January and 31 December 2023.

Not sure if this is a "2023" perk or if its an ongoing thing and my bucket of 4 benefits will refresh on 1 January 2024...

i have a booking from January 4 2024, no issues encountered when booking. already received the cash back.

sent an email to concierge 7/12, they replied 8/12 after to'ing and fro'ing with calls -- they kept calling me at 8/9/10PM AEDT, we finally spoke 27/12 and booked 5 nights in Sydney. It's a bit all over the shop, the hotel direct is $120 total lower than Citi but then I get $357 (excludes GST/taxes) within 6-8 weeks.

the Citi price was $450 cheaper than AMEX Travel portal and their confirmation email states:

**For Citi Prestige Visa cardholders: You will be charged for 3 nights only.
You can check the hotels available in via Hotels.com

**For Citi Prestige Mastercard cardholders: You will be charged 4 nights and receive a credit for the 4th night. Please note that you will only receive the credit within 6-8 weeks from completion of full payment and stay.

You can check the list of participating hotels via Expedia.com.

There's a custom URL confirmation to aspire.switchfly.com and states "This service is payable by Travelscape LLC"

Who knows what system they're using -- their email also continues with the other (wrong/generic) phone number of 61 2 8225 0042 not 02 7907 0863

Tried to book a hotel in Trivandrum, India (also known as Thiruvananthapuram) - we gave them 4 hotel options that all show up on expedia.com (Hilton & Hyatt, as well as two more local ones; Vivanta and O by Tamara)

Got a response that these hotels are not affiliated with the 4th night free promotion, and that they do not have any participating hotels in the city. Seems strange that expedia has multiple options yet they tell us we have no options?

Is this the regular amex travel portal? Or a special one for amex users?

I don’t think they’re using Expedia anymore. I tried for a property in Goa and had the same. The benefit isn’t great anymore.
