Citibank Dining - Free Wine Offer

Interesting experience at Meat & Wine Company the other night - they added the wine to the bill, and said when I pay with a Citibank card, they will remove the charge. I guess they have had too many people ask for the free Citibank wine, and then pay on AMEX.

Sure enough, the bill was adjusted at the time of payment.
I had the reverse effectively. Was at Meat & Wine Co. Hawthorn East and wine was not on bill and I paid on Amex (because I'd left my CB card in my other wallet )--they didn't notice and there were no problems.

We had dinner in a restaurant at Crows Nest and when I inquired about Citibank wine offer, the host said they'd come off the program as they hadn't been settled by Citi. I don't know how the program works between bank and merchant but anyway, the food and service was very good.

Just had a courier deliver a "birthday gift" from Citi dining program, Gary Mehigan's "Comfort food" cookbook. I would have preferred a nice red but as they say it's the thought that counts!

Living right next to Crows Nest myself, can we have a recommendation, I dont really care about the Citibank wine.!

Ate at Mumu Grill last Friday. Ribs were just what I needed after a tough week and the Citibank wine was pretty good from memory (Sangiovese I think). Service can be a little lacklustre but food is usually quite good.

Only recently realised I was eligible for this offer, and a couple of places I frequent for lunch in Brisbane participate. Not so good for the afternoon productivity though...

Has been honored without question, although one day 2 of us had to buy 3 pizzas ($12-$13 each) to qualify.

Citibank Dining Program Terms and Conditions state that: there is a minimum order of one main course per person at most of our partner restaurants. For those restaurants with a sharing, yum cha, sushi, pizza, tapas or small plate menu, a minimum spend of $50 on food is required.

It is not realistic to expect Citibank and a restaurant to provide a free bottle of wine with no food spend.

I used my card for dining benefits for the first time the other weekend at Rustica in Newcastle (our favorite restaurant in Newcastle) and scored as I also booked it on QF website for 9 of us so got 900 QFF points plus a bottle of wine. I wasn't sure if I could double dip but stoked to see both deal honored.

Thanks Ric, I wasn't aware of those T & C's. Not sure if that has always been the case; as I have been using the benefit for many years I haven't read the T & C's for a long time. Dare I ask if it has been made simpler and fairer?

I agree that there needs to be some food spend, but I would have thought that a pizza would be enough of a "main meal" for most.

Not disagreeing, just saying.

Why? There is no minimum spend AFAIK.

I didn't question it at the time because it seemed fair that I needed to spend more than $25 to get a $25 bottle of wine free, but seems what I got was better than the Ts&Cs as I didn't spend $50 on food.

We managed to finish the 3 pizzas between the 2 of us no problem ! (They aren't that big - hence the $13 price tag)

I might be a bit slow to the party here but it looks like this has been pulled for the whole of South Australia. There are no qualifying restaurants which is just plain wierd.

Hey you guys are right - SA does not even appear in drop down box - FTR 168 Citi dining partners in Australia - 68 in VIC - of which 37 are Taco Bills - fine dining establishments they are!

As far as I've found it really depends on the individual merchants. I've had several ask everyone to have a main meal while another that I've been to wanted a $50 minimum spend which resulted in us sharing an icecream for dessert.

In regards to the S.A. not having any participating restaurants I have just received a personal email from a high up staff member (really suprising but appreciated). I won't repost the entire email as I appreciate the honesty from this person, but the gist is they are/have swapped Wine suppliers for the Free Wine offer and have to resign up all participating restaurants again. Unfortuently none of the previous resturants in S.A. want to re-sign up again so they are looking for other resturants in S.A. to sign up.
