Citibank Plus - No Fee No Overseas Transaction Fee Account

Does the fee free ATM withdrawal only apply to Citibank ATMs overseas or any ATM? I recall reading somewhere when doing research prior to getting the card that you had to use Citibank ATMs to avoid the fee but of course I can't find that now. Citibank T&Cs aren't specific. Reading this post has me thinking otherwise.

No fee at Citibank ATMs, but a possible ATM "owners fee" that is usually displayed before you choose to use that ATM.

From the Schedule of Fees and Charges:

2. Non-Citibank and non-Partner * ATM owners may charge you a fee for use of their ATMs. No Citibank Fees are charged for Citibank Plus Transaction Accounts....

*Partner ATMs include Westpac branded, St.George, Bank of Melbourne and Bank SA ATMs within Australia.

An you cane use the branch/atm finder on their web site to find friendly machines when abroad.

Just a warning for infrequent users of the card - beware of the account becoming inactive. Used the card overseas 10 months or so ago, the cleared down to a few dollars, and left. Before last trip a few weeks ago, transferred funds in (direct credit) - and all set, so I thought.

Got to France, multiple ATMs all reporting withdrawal declined by bank. Had to call Citi, to discover the account t was considered inactive, and had to be deactivated. That could only be done in business hours in Sydney, so a good thing I wasn't desperate for cash. The credit into the account didn't count as activity.

If you haven't used the account for a while, I would advise a test ATM withdrawal before heading overseas.

Excellent advice equus, thanks. I opened the account in July but haven't transferred any funds into it yet, will do so and do a couple of test ATM withdrawals before leaving. I notice Citibank also advise that you let them know if you are travelling and to where to avoid the card being blocked.

There is a six month inactivity clause in the terms and conditions. This account is so good you may as well use it at least partially as a daily transaction account.

I pay part of my salary in to it, and occasionally withdraw cash and BPay credit card bills.

Bear in mind I find Citi slower than other banks for processing BPay for some reason.
Doesn't matter that much - if using BPay in line with the bank's defined business day closeoff, the institution being paid must consider the payment to be made that day, even if the funds do not 'arrive' it for several days.

Never knew there was a 6 month inactivity clause, how interesting. I'm using my Citibank Plus account as my ATM cash withdrawal facility so should never have the problem arise, but good to know.

I use mine regularly but having had almost the same situation previously I now have a monthly $1 direct credit from my mortgage into Citi so there is no inactivity

I never used Citibank while I was there. Japan Post (inside post offices) and Seven Bank (7/11) are the only ones guaranteed to work. I think Citi might, but all the other ATM's reject foreign cards including Citibank

The Citibank Plus card works fine in Citibank ATMs. I used the one inside Narita airport and also one in Tokyo somewhere (can't remember). I suggest saving this PDF listing all their ATMs along with addresses and mini-maps to your phone so you can access it even without internet access.

I am not sure this will work - direct credits in do not seen to count, it probably needs to be over the counter, or a withdrawal.

I had made a direct credit in a week or so prior, and the account was still inactive. Of course, the CSR never thought to tell me that when I rang to advise of use overseas....

The Citi t&cs at the bottom of the info page for Citi Plus account - "transaction and savings accounts." Seems to be applicable to a.number of Citi deposit accounts.

I haven't used my card since May so I just made a small deposit. Just in case as I will be in the US next month

As mentioned a bit up thread - I recently used the Citi Plus debit card all over Europe at 'random' ATMs and I don't think I attracted a fee once. In any event, the converted A$ amount was so close to spot on that day it didn't matter. I was initially seeking out Citi ATMs but not available in one early country, so I had to use another bank's, checked statement on-line, no fee, and then used it 'freely'.

I have recently encountered a fee in Canada though (where there are no Citi ATMs!)

Am in shock!
Just rang Citi back office
Got my dormant Plus account reactivated, new card sent out express post, (2-3 working days) gave my overseas itinerary, activated replacement Signature for me and Mrs D.
All done in 5 minutes
Go CITI !!!

Question.....
Has anyone done the sums re:
3.33 points per $ versus 3% saving on transaction fees ??
Select v Citi plus
