Citibank Plus - No Fee No Overseas Transaction Fee Account

For these debit cards they often tell me to pick credit as it has more security features? Seems to work most of the time for purchases.

FWIW YES I have been told by both Citi and Bendigo Banks with Debit Cards - SAVINGS to withdraw cash / CREDIT to make purchases from a Vendor.

Precisely what I have been told. Just to clarify, my response up thread was in relation to ATM withdrawals. But I definitely use credit for purchases.

You have to press credit overseas to send it via the Visa network. Most overseas ATM don't seem to give you a choice though.

Really? Never noticed that - I cannot ever remember an ATM that does not ask Credit or Savings - for sure ATMs in China ask - I will check and get some pics when I am in Germany next week and USA in 2 weeks time.

I am pretty sure my most recent experience in Hong Kong I was not asked, when using Citi Plus Visa.

It may vary though!

I am sure it does - I remember years ago in LAS I was trying to get funds from ATM - kept pushing Credit - took me 3 days to work out I needed to push Savings - bummer.

I used Savings in France a couple of months ago, with no problems

I'm not sure if this is new or not ..... but after having no end of trouble with Australia Post (e.g. they tried 5 different locations and all said they couldn't do it), the application expired for my parents. Resubmitted both last night and we were able to do online verification (post lodging the application). Both seem to have now been approved without issue. Not sure if the online verification (DL, Passport, Medicare - use 2 of 3) is new?

Was in BKK airport last week and it asked which account type - a week in Germany and withdrew multiple amts and not once did it ask which account type - go figure.

Here in Switzerland at the shops or government offices it doesn't ask for the account type, although a few times I am asked about DCC and swiftly select away from AUD.

I've gone to the bancomat twice now but can't remember if I was asked about account type there; my gut says I was not.

Citibank's IT sometimes leaves a lot to be desired. People complain about the airlines - please......

I find it's more a bank / ATM thing rather than anything Citibank does e.g. for my UK cards it would act the same

Any peculiarities to this card in Japan. Obviously will work in the few Citibank outlets and guessing 7/11 bank

Both Savings and Credit work for me overseas equally as well (Malaysia, Vietnam and Thailand) for ATM withdrawals. Seems to be no difference in exchange rate (and certainly no fees from Citibank)

I never used Citibank while I was there. Japan Post (inside post offices) and Seven Bank (7/11) are the only ones guaranteed to work. I think Citi might, but all the other ATM's reject foreign cards including Citibank

Just as a data point .......... card and pin was delivered in less than a week from application, seems they may have resolved the issues they had getting things out in a timely manner.
