Citibank Plus - No Fee No Overseas Transaction Fee Account

YES new Citibank site working extra well - ability to log on and choose your own pin a big plus - to change pin with Alt Black you must take the MC portion into a Westpac branch and they do it onsite - archaic.

Back to Citi and a warning - about 6 - 8 weeks out from your Citi card expiration Citi back office will be preparing your new replacement card. Once this process id triggered you will see a link appear in your Citi online account directly under your existing card number which will read 'Activate Your Card". This is the link to activate your NEW card which you will receive in mail 4 to 6 weeks later - INSANE - DO NOT - I repeat DO NOT click this link until you have your new replacement card in your hands as clicking the link will AUTOMATICALLY deactivate / cancel your existing card - and is irreversible.

I know this as I did it - I thought after all the messy stuff ups post Citi launching their new web sites that they had indeed somehow deactivaterd my existing Select and I needed to reactivate it - but alas it cancelled my card and had to wait til new card arrived - BEWARE as their is definitely no advice re this matter anywhere in your online account.

Mrscove's lack of love with Citi is unchanged because my credit limit is 15k higher. She thinks the only difference that caused that are dangly bits seeing we have the same income. Thanks for the update on card renewals. That would be embarrassing with the monthly creditor payments that went out last night to handle April accounts.

Can also be extremely inconvenient if you were heading to China the day after you inadvertently deactivated / cancelled your Select and hence were going to miss those 3.33KF pts/$1 - lucky I had new NEW Black at 3KF pts/$1 to substitute.

They say to let them know if travelling overseas. I do this with my CBA credit cards, but since this is a debit card, does it matter? Does anyone do this?

Yes, I do. Never hurts to be safe. You never know when the computerised fraud systems might just say 'No'.

Almost six weeks since application and my Mum's Citibank Plus card has not arrived, despite application, many contacts with the call centre, and proof of identity sent.

Given she is away until early July, squat all can be done about it (since of course no one has authority over her application except herself); I mean, yes, it isn't much use to her until then, obviously. I might just drop into the Citibank branch in the CBD and give them a piece of feedback. I'd imagine the face-to-face staff are a bit more empathetic and ably-competent compared to the phone support, though it's beyond ridiculous now. (Maybe one light reason why bricks and mortar is not completely out of date).

thought i'd share the exceptional service ive received from citibank thus far... applied for my card 23/06 and completed online verification. received email on 25/06 stating everything is setup and i'd have my debit card within 4-7 business days. the following day i had my new citi visa debit card in my hand.

i suspect the pins are on their way and likely to arrive on monday 30/06... so far ive been overwhelmed by the prompt and efficient process.

originally i was a non-believer and used ING Direct card abroad, sadly wearing the $2.50 fee across the board but the more and more feedback I read led me down this path.

We received GBP out of the fee free ATM across the street in Canary Wharf and the exchange rate of 0.5547 for 200 Pounds was brilliant.

I finally got my card. They had the address wrong, so it never arrived. They couriered it. Easy. Yet to try it though.

Re: Citibank Everyday Plus - Free overseas ATM withdrawals!

Does anyone know the default daily ATM withdrawal limit? Don't have any paperwork with me overseas, and need to make a fairly large ATM cash withdrawal (apartment deposit) over the next few days. Can't seem to find the info in My Account online.

Thanks in advance!

Apparently it's AUD$1000/day.

Thanks, you're right, and the max is $3k/day. Can't withdraw over the counter at overseas Citi branches either - ATM or nothing.

Gonna take some time this withdrawal...

So you can ask them to raise it to $3/day? Is that then 3x$1k AUD withdrawals? So if you were in the US today you could take out $920/day or so...?

Re: Citibank Everyday Plus - Free overseas ATM withdrawals!

This card is causing me problems.

I'm abroad and logged into the app today to view my transactions to see what rates I've being getting on cash withdrawals (very good, I might add). But even once you've logged in with your username and password you need further authentication to read the transaction ledger. Why? I'm not increasing my credit limit or closing the card or changing my name. I've already authenticated myself; show me the details.

Anyway, I have the OTP generator. But, nope, apparently that doesn't work with the app. You can only get SMS OTPs for use on the app, which is a big part of the reason I got the generator so that I can avoid the SMS fees abroad. So I try to login on my laptop, using both IE and Chrome. Multiple times it failed, telling me that either my ID or password were incorrect. I ended up having to login through the website using the browser on the iPad.

So hard.

Re: Citibank Everyday Plus - Free overseas ATM withdrawals!

Yeah, I find the need for a OTP to get transactions a bit of a PITA, but don't have the issues you have :( . The rates of conversion are sensational; maybe 15c-50c in $100 lost over spot.

Re: Citibank Everyday Plus - Free overseas ATM withdrawals!

Hi All.
Does anyone have a list of Fee Free ATMs in Siem Reap?
We're travelling with the CitiBank Plus card, which won't charge any fees itself, but I'm looking to find ATMs that don't charge any local fees.
Or, on a more global level, is there any association/group (e.g. Maestro, Cirrus, etc) that CitiBank belongs to which 'labels' the ATM as local fee free?
Thanks for your help.

Pardon the silly question, but if you load up the account, then use it as a credit card (using the debit function), are you then charged the 2.5% overseas foreign transaction fee?

Never had a debit card so am a little confused

No. It's "just" a bank account so there is no concept of loading. You either have funds in your bank account or you don't.

There are no fees at all, except ATM owner fees which Citi can't control.

No - using this card as a CC for a non cash transaction will not incur a fee for you(although it will for the merchant).

No. A debit card is like a standard bank account. I.e you can only use however much cash you have in the account. Having the debit facility enables it to be used wherever a credit card could normally be done. But think of it just like you are doing an eftpos transaction at the supermarket buying something, the cash comes directly out of your account. It can't go in to negative which is what a credit card is doing.

Cool, so I can have $5000 in the account, press "credit" on an eftpos machine overseas for a say NZ$1000 transaction, and there won't be any fees (if I'm understanding it correctly)?

Edit: for context, I'm renting a car in NZ and it turns out the company charges nz$5000 to a credit card as a bond, then refunds it when returned. Trying to figure out how to minimise currency conversion fees, as my 28deg card has a $2k limit.
