Citibank Select Card Rewards transfer rate to Velocity/Kris/Asiamiles?

I will admit that if I had a Citi Select then I would have used that for my current holiday too!

Alternatively if I'd been organised enough I could have transferred all that cash to my Citi Plus account and used that without the fees. Too late now :-)

I wish I had twigged to the 28 Degrees card....I have been done over by Travelex and the big 4 banks as well (in the past).

Citi charge 3.3% forex fees for overseas use of their Visa cards, whilst Amex charge 3%. If people are getting cheaper final amounts on their Citi Visas, the Amex exchange rate must be worse than the Visa rate.
As far as I'm concerned padding the rate is no different to a fee, they are just hiding it.

I did some calculations regarding the exchange rates that Citibank and Amex use and compared it with the interbank rates on the days. It appears to me as if Citibank does not charge a currency conversion fee, while Amex charges 3%. That's also why Amex was 3% more expensive in the example I mentioned earlier.
That is a very pleasant surprise and I hope it is not just a mistake. :)

According to the rules it was a mistake and that has happened on my purchases as well. It is better to expect the 3.3% fee to earn those additional points on Citi for overseas items.

I've had Citi Select for over 1.5 years and it's been my experience that they do not charge any currency conversion fee, contrary to what the documents may say.

So whilst overseas I use my select for credit purchases and 28 degrees to withdraw cash and pay for those cash only places. Works well.

If you need a good laugh look at the spreads travelex offer at the airport??

Sorry Citibank Australia, but 50K not enough to tempt me across to Signature/Select, try harder. 80K might just work!!

Excuse my ignorance Sir, but if you got the 80k bonus points, what airline schemes can they be rolled into and at what rate?

Im a QF boy these days but also run a Virgin account.

i'm not much help spruce but also asked this question the other day in a different thread.

my thinking is qantas since if you run with their qantas program it's 1:1 whereas if you run with the citi program it's 2:1 - so equivalent spend would be $80k QFF vs $40k citi rewards therefore best to go qantas with the extra $49 fee, even if you'll run citi for the actual spend on the card? (i.e. swap back after bonus points get credited)

cheers

I think if you want to get premium seats you would use Kris or Asia Miles but this could change so you can warehouse the points and read AFF for updates.
SQ ignore Velocity points for their best seats and who could blame them for doing that?
SQ has been my best for international.

I have one of these and I'm pretty sure that they said once I chose Qantas there was no going back...still I guess you could cancel, reapply a bit later and get another 80,000 points in the Citi rewards program this time.

can you tell I have been hanging around here too long? :)

My mistake. I just checked the terms and conditions.

"To opt out of the Citibank Qantas Rewards, simply call the applicable CitiPhone number above and ask them to transfer you to the Citibank Rewards Program and take advantage of the wide range of benefits available."

Very interesting in light of the discussion about their price match guarantee that I have just found elsewhere here

Can someone please provide a link to the Bpay option of crediting the select card? Going to need to reload the card a couple of times before I receive my first statement

Thanks

I'm looking at getting the Select card and cancelling my AMEX Platinum (waste of money that was!). Can those that have the Select confirm no foreign exchange fee is charged? A post back in Feb suggests it isn't. Thanks.

The fee on foreign payments on my non Qantas Citi Select is 3.3% but it earns 3.33 real Kris flyer points.
The BPay detail will be on your Citi Statement so if you are a newbie you may need to call them so start the call with your sense of humour intact or wait a month to avoid the call.

thanks for this too.

now to get my head around the price match guarantee thread which at first glance negates any need to have a QFF direct earn anyway!

The bonus points would be for CitiRewards, which can then be transferred to either Virgin or Singapore at 1.5 CR to 1 frequent flyer mile, or Asia Miles at 2 CR to 1 FF mile.

AKAIK, the 80k bonus points is for transferring to CitiRewards, and not Qantas.

if you opt in to QFF direct earn you get the 80k bonus points on sign up too
