If you mean via DEFT, then that is fine. But from memory there is a 3+% surcharge for AMEX
Hi respectable Dr Ralph, I meant paying by this Citi Signature Qantas VISA card. There is a 1.65% surcharge. Does this transaction count as a valid spend towards the 5k min spending requirement.

*My application was approved pretty much the next day. Submitted Thursday night. Credit Card account number visible on Citibank online banking on Friday. Only received an email on Sunday saying it’s approved.

You might be able to help me out with this one... does it indicate anywhere anything about valid spends to meet the spending limit? In terms of point earns generally, it does talk about 'eligible payments' and lists certain ones such as government that aren't included, but that's a footnote for the regular points earned, not the bonus points for minimum spend criteria. I'm kinda hoping that any 5K spent would cover that off then?!?
Anyhow, I applied last week and still pending, so might be a moot point for me but have been wondering...

Apologies, seems I was distracted by your name. DEFT payment via citi VISA fine for bonus.

I couldn’t find anything with regards to valid spend towards the 5k min spend.

Perhaps you could give them a call to speed things up. (I’ve been banking with Citi since 2010 and have accounts overseas as well)

Well I have decided to take a leap and apply for this card. Been a Citi transaction customer for 10+ years, so hopefully that stands me in some kind of good stead...

Definitely not.

Thanks Dr - appreciate your input and I know you have lots of experience in the c'card space!
I had thought the same thing initially... but can't seem to find anywhere where it confirms that is the case for this card. Do you have a particular reference you've based it on...?

Without checking the specific terms its just straight forward logic. To count for bonus spend, spend should count for regular points. Not all spend counts for regular points. E.g.. Cash advance and gambling don't count for normal points.

I just applied, went all the way to the end and when submitted received a message. "sorry we cant do that right now, please try again later"
No details saved or anything.

Random...

Did you enter your email address anywhere?

If so it's likely that you'll get a 'please come back and complete your application' message at some point if the system hasn't received your completed application.

I think so, but honestly i don't recall. I just followed through the steps uploaded payslips and such and then that was it.

No email received as yet.

Applied Monday morning and luckily enough approved Wednesday afternoon. Application process showed no evidence of it being a Qantas card but that seems to be expected.

Bit of a stuff around with this one. Application failed as it was asking for PIN number etc. Took several days of calls to citi staff telling me that it was “all captured correctly” before I managed to find someone who could figure out what to do.

Reading the terms and conditions for this one, it doesn’t seem to exclude government spend for the provision of the bonus points.

Best to check the T&Cs for the particular card you applied for (and for which you kept all screen shots to be safe), as offers change. I'd guess that no, govt charges do not qualify for the bonus. Unless you pay via a 'third' entity such as easy bill pay.

Do council rates count as eligible spend for the 100k bonus points?

Thanks. My council uses BPOINT - unsure if this will count as a third party.

What does yr cc statement look like - does Bpoint refer to a 'govt' spend? You need to do a spot of research, not rely on what others may think, that could be costly.

A few days later I received a rejection letter. No request for further info or anything.
Second rejection now from CITI.

I must have offended them!

Citi approval is a mystery. Some here will never apply for a citi card due to their unfortunate reputation. Don't take it personally. Best to not apply for them ever again.
