re: [closed for registration] 6 Points/$1 at Ðick Smith (over $50)

Have you got any evidence that it is spoilt for everyone else?

It was (and is) a promotional offer.
No. I was just going by the evidence (speculation, inuendo) provided in this thread.

But by the same token if some people have already purchased 1 years worth of gift cards then in my opinion that is some form of abuse. With any of these promotions one needs to be careful not to draw unnecessary attention to their spending habits.

I spent $774 at DSE yesterday and 5031 points have posted. It is still all working from where I'm sitting.
Good to hear but I am not sure my mum will be so happy to have to continue using gift cards. :(

re: [closed for registration] 6 Points/$1 at Ðick Smith (over $50)

I bought a $100 wish card from DSE yesterday and my bonus points have been posted today :)

re: [closed for registration] 6 Points/$1 at Ðick Smith (over $50)

I purchased a Wish Gift card from DSE on Thu (Jan 13) and the bonus points appeared in my account today (Jan 15) :p

re: [closed for registration] 6 Points/$1 at Ðick Smith (over $50)

I've registered for this promo late last year with my Amex Plat Credit Card and have been getting the bonus points.

I'm applying for an Amex Platinum Charge Card and wonder whether I would still get the bonus using the new card as it would have a different number.

Can I still re-register for the promo now or has it expired for new registrations?
Is there a way that they can 'transfer' the promo details from one card to another, if the cardholder name is the same?

This would also going to be a problem if someone had to change the card number due to lost card etc.

Depends if they create a new MR account or just change your existing to ascent premium tier. Suggest reregistering anyway to be doubly sure when the new card I activated.

I had to buy a few new computers from Dick Smith hence the large $$ spent there ;););););)

re: [closed for registration] 6 Points/$1 at Ðick Smith (over $50)

Slighty OT, but what are everyone's experiences with faulty wish cards? I had 2 x $50 wish cards with a "bad read" error today and no one in Safeway knew how to reload the balances onto a new wish card. Very frustrating, and if it wasn't for this bonus points promotion, I'd abandon the use of them altogether.

re: [closed for registration] 6 Points/$1 at Ðick Smith (over $50)

I've had the same problem with Woolies and a bad card read - take the wish card and original purchase receipt to any Dick Smith store and they will re-issue with a new card.

Hmm, I would check online the balance using the "check balance" tool at Home | Everyday Gift Cards to ensure that the card is registered correctly.

I'd probably also suggest contacting Contact Us | Everyday Gift Cards and asking for advice. I am surprised that a store can't deal with a "non-swiping" gift card - they should be able to call a helpdesk, cancel the card and re-issue on the spot.

re: [closed for registration] 6 Points/$1 at Ðick Smith (over $50)

AV8 - yep, was planning to go back to the DSE store where I purchased the cards originally and get them to reload onto a new card. It wasn't convenient to me today hence the frustration.

Mal - the check-out operator was able to confirm the balances on the cards, but no more than that.

Problem was with the magnetic strip on the back of the cards (maybe de-magnetised?). Shouldn't they just be able to key in the number manually (like you can with a credit card), into the POS system to access the funds on the wish cards?

I have had great luck with the plastic bag trick. Putting a plastic Woolies bag over the card and then swiping fixes the problem in most cases.

Dunno about manual entry, but I assume there HAS to be a process for that!!!!

re: [closed for registration] 6 Points/$1 at Ðick Smith (over $50)

I have only ever had one non functioning card and this was at Woolies/Safeway. It would show the balance but nothing else and non of the usual tricks would work.

I had to go to the service desk where it took two people following a quite complex set of instructions to transfer the credit onto a new card. They said that this was a common enough problem and they had a laminated A4 sheet of instructions.

re: [closed for registration] 6 Points/$1 at Ðick Smith (over $50)

UPDATE: I returned to the local DSE store and was promptly ushered out saying they didn't know how to deal with the faulty cards either!! Off to Big W where there was success - finally :). I'll be contacting the Wish Card Inc to report my experiences.

17 What do I do if when my Gift Card is swiped in the EFTPOS terminal a message stating 'Bad Read' appears?

It may be that the magnetic stripe on the rear of your card has become demagnetised. For a WISH Gift Card or Store Gift Card, visit the customer service desk within a Woolworths / Safeway Supermarket or BIG W store, and speak with a service supervisor, they can transfer your available balance and expiry date onto a new Gift Card. For an Essentials Card or Groceries Only Card, click here to contact us and arrange for a replacement card to be sent.

re: [closed for registration] 6 Points/$1 at Ðick Smith (over $50)

Has anyone made a donation to the Flood Appeal, using a wish gift card?

Woolworths are matching donations dollar-for-dollar, until midnight, Thu 20th January 2011.

re: [closed for registration] 6 Points/$1 at Ðick Smith (over $50)

$50 itunes cards for $40 from Thursday if you are getting sick of buying wish gift cards, from memory this sort of purchase is also eligible for EDR points.

Of course you need to spend $50 for a qualifying transaction, so by a $50 Gift Card and use that buy the $40 ($50 value) iTunes card with $10 left to spend on fuel, groceries, beer etc.

Is this at DSE? (I assume so) points are only earned on purchases >$50 at DSE, so the iTunes card itself isn't going to get any points. Unless I'm missing something?
However, Good to know about the discount.

re: [closed for registration] 6 Points/$1 at Ðick Smith (over $50)

If I didn't get it wrong gift cards purchase are excluded from the EDR deal.

You quoted my post outlining how to make the transaction qualify. Purchase a $50 DSE Gft Card, which qualifies for the Amex bonus points promotion. Then use the Gift Card to purchase an iTunes card for $40 (getting $50 iTunes credit) and you still have $10 remaining on the Gift Card to spend on other things like petrol, groceries, beer etc at any other Woolworths, Big W, Caltex, BWS, Dan Murphy's etc.
