OK I will . One warning about Sabi Sand - the temperatures at that time of year are very unpredictable - it could be really hot or bitterly cold and change rapidly. I would advise gloves, beanies and scarves for the early morning drives just in case. You will have a fantastic time I am sure!

Thank-you - it is why I made an effort to get the family there as well, because at her age anything could happen. It was terribly sudden though - we were all booked to go and spend a few weeks with her in March as we knew things could deteriorate but in the end it was too long away - a blessing in many ways though.

Last time we were at Kruger in probably about 2004 it was the same time of year as well (from memory - we will be there in early Sept and it may have been a few weeks later that time) and it was quite cool at times and we did need to rug up in the early morning. This time we booked through &Beyond so hope they are OK.

We stayed at Ngorongorong Crater in Tanzania which is an &Beyond property - the booking was done by Singita though. Pretty much everyone else there was on an &Beyond tour and seemed very happy. The staff were obviously very proud of the brand and enjoying working for them.

Interesting! I flew on QF63 back in August and when I opened my clothes I wondered if everything was a bit damp. It was raining when we left Sydney too, and it was an old 747 (VH OJA I believe.)

Interesting! I flew on QF63 back in August and when I opened my clothes I wondered if everything was a bit damp. It was raining when we left Sydney too, and it was an old 747 (VH OJA I believe.)

We didn't need to wonder - some items were literally dripping wet. Not sure exactly what plane - it was an old 4 class 747. The problem seems to have been a sudden storm that resulted in a lot of water in the hold.

That sounds dangerous! Mr FM has been put on notice that pictures will be required. Probably lots of water and not too many animals this time.

This actually happens a lot. Best idea I have used is to always get me luggage wrapped, not only keeps everything dry but gives security and peace of mind as well. Cheap and very effective solution.

Good idea if travelling to Africa............especially to JoBurg.

I had my suitcase cut open during the 2 hour transit at Jnb...fortunately, we had all our valuables in our carry on....the suit case was full of dirty clothes

QF64 is always delayed. Last time I took it, it landed as QF63 exactly when it was meant to be flying me out as QF64. Ah well, it's still faster than a sail boat.

We have been lucky in the past with no delays with either QF63 or QF64 so I guess it was time to be in the real world. Definitely overnighting in JNB when we fly over in September!

That reminds me actually. My flight on QF63 was also delayed (left Sydney late due to poor weather and apparently heaps of people stuck in customs) and they actually made a lengthy announcement saying that they were rebooking people on South Africa airway flights who were going to miss their connections. And when we landed they asked us to give way to passengers making connecting flights who were no doubt quite stressed (and possibly not with airlines aligned with QF).
