Sitting at home miserable with blocked, runny nose. Stepped off a flight on Sat evening from Kul and by Sun pm started to develop a sore throat, and by Mon am, unable to rise from bed! Will have to go back to work tomorrow otherwise will need a doctor's certificate!!. Have already taken panadol and about to take some pseudofed.....

I rarely, as in every few years only, ever take anything for a cold (as in medication)

I use multi-vitamins combined with garlic/ace/zinc tables and Echinacea tablets

Usually better in a few days and as a result over the longer term I very rarely get sick now

China/Hong Kong the remedy is warm coke, but that's not good for your teeth ;)

I usually mix the strongest strepsils with lemsip and sleep it off.

Hot water with a dash of lemon juice and honey is good for the throat (and good Vitamin C).

I'm at home too, having a cold myself. Just taking Panadol and drinking on honey, lemon, warm water.

Yes, watching Air Crash Investigations right now too.

Do they frown upon you writing yourself a certificate?

I knew someone would ask....I don't think I can:p. Hot soup, panadol and pseudofed has made me feel a bit better...I think I feel well enough to start planning my next trip...no wait, I have to do my BAS this pm (I can feel the headache coming back tho.!), and that should net me a few more points :)

Do you know a nurse who could write a certificate? ;)

I'm not sure I can ask my +1 to write one either!;) I think I have to go back to work tomorrow regardless...otherwise my colleagues might kill me. It is really bad form to take a weeks' leave, and then immediately take 2 sick days off!

Lay in a stock of Demazine for Coughs, Colds & Flu. You will find them at the 'Pharmacist Medicines Only' counter of the pharmac_: expect to be quizzed about other medication you might be taking etc. and to show ID. They work like a charm. If taken at the first sign of that 'cotton-wool-face' feeling or drippy nose, a couple of these will very often stop the cold developing further. I don't find that they inhibit sleep or cause bowel congestion but that may not be the case for everyone.

Hot water with crushed lemon, a drop of honey and a splash of scotch works well for me :)

One place where I worked, you could supply a statutory declaration if you were sick and it could be signed by a family member. I don't know if this was in the award or this is a universal thing for all workplaces.

I reckon nearly every single time I've gone o/s I've come back with a lurgie. The last time I was away for 4 weeks (the longest time I've ever had on annual leave). About 3 days before I was due to return to work, whilst in Miami, I woke up at about 5am with the sorest throat i've ever had. I could live with that, but by the time I got home, it had progressed to my chest (incessant cough). The guilt of it all! When you're sick, you're sick. I seriously could not go to work. Went to the doctor and got a couple of days off. When I went back to work, it was obvious to everyone that I was sick. Cough, cough cough. It took weeks to get rid of it.

Get well soon kpc,

You know when you are really sick you don't post on AFF or anywhere for that matter.

I thought you would have enough friends that could write you a sick note.

On some awards you can actually claim the days you were sick when on leave...

A combination of panadol, strepsils and pseudofed has resulted in me getting off my death bed....slept in to 12 noon today:shock:. I tried the lemon in hot tea...it was so sour, I poured it down the sink!

True....but don't want to abuse the friendship....
