Stepped off plane on Tues am, by afternoon, had sore throat, and had full blown cold with blocked nose, fever, cough etc by Wed pm. Took yesterday off work, struggled through work today, and now feeling miserable with w/e approaching and looking like I will be housebound....am I the only cursed one to seemingly always catching a cold after a long flight home?!

Since I started flying on regular basis for work my immune system took a massive hit. I used to catch a cold once or twice a year max but in the last decade it's up to 5 times a year. At least it doesn't usually develop to a full on fever so I can still work almost as usual.

I use Vicks First Defence and Vicks VapoRub just before I fly long haul. I got that tip from a retired Cathay pilot.

How about at the beginning of the holiday?

After a day or so of the September Thailand trip I was in Chiang Mai and had a sore throat on the way to golf. Light cough that go worse in the next couple of days and my chest was sore everytime I coughed. I self medicated thinking it was bacterial and took a course of Amoxyl. My fiancee also started to get sick and then baby nephew got sick as well. I don't think it was from me as their symptoms were totally different to mine.

The Amoxyl didn't stop the cough so I took a second course of Amoxyl. Cough was stil there and my chest was still hurting when I returned to Australia. Went to see doctor who checked for pneumonia, tonsilitis etc and presecribed Ricodeine. After 100 mLs I was fine. I think about 3 weeks or so all up.

My fiancee was worse. In bed the 5 days we were in Pattaya, fever, vomiting, diarrhia. The same symptoms as my nephew. I did not have any of these symptoms. Just a dry cough and sore chest.
