Cold remedies

I reckon nearly every single time I've gone o/s I've come back with a lurgie. The last time I was away for 4 weeks (the longest time I've ever had on annual leave). About 3 days before I was due to return to work, whilst in Miami, I woke up at about 5am with the sorest throat i've ever had. I could live with that, but by the time I got home, it had progressed to my chest (incessant cough). The guilt of it all! When you're sick, you're sick. I seriously could not go to work. Went to the doctor and got a couple of days off. When I went back to work, it was obvious to everyone that I was sick. Cough, cough cough. It took weeks to get rid of it.

Same thing last time I went OS; worst cough I've ever had, not really helped by 20+ hours of travel to get home...

I tried the lemon in hot tea...it was so sour, I poured it down the sink!
...

You need to add some honey to sweeten it up!

Don't think enough suggestions here involved alcohol myself...

I think Chopper also had some good advice for those out there with a few sniffles... :)

But yes, am a fan of the garlic + horseradish tablets, seem to get very few colds these days and not very bad ones...

I rely on my Grandfather's remedy-warm lemon juice and rum with more of the latter.
May not fix the cold but it doesn't bother you nearly as much.

Always found rum nice when having a sore throat. May not have fixed the illness but found it a good remedy.

Time to hit the booze of choice... With some lemon in it... Or cola if it was my case... :)

Pretty sure I got it from the girl who's been sharing my office; she's been quite sick...
"Steals your stationery" and gives you a cold! I'm back at work today so no need for medical certificate :) Not 100% but much better...

She's not my stationary thief! :p That'd be the guy in the next office who turns up a couple hours a week if he can be bothered.

Better hit the shops for some berocca this arvo (and panadol; hate headaches).

Similar, my grandfather used to say, a double scotch washed down with a double scotch does the trick... He didn't see a doctor in the last 36 years of his life and lived to be 97

Some of us need to prepare for travel and others are just lucky. I had the flu (the real flu) in TPE and literally dragged myself back to oz. really it was the longest trip, helped by an upgrade!!

I felt a bad cold coming on just after arriving in London in March, but took one of those "night" tablets (you know, the day and night cold and flu over the counter tablets) which I think is loaded with pseudoephidrine, and it worked a treat.

The blocked nose is the worst part. I hate trying to sleep when it's like that.

I load up on everything. The thing I find most soothing though is dead simple. I have one of those double-glass insulated tall glasses. Throw in 1/4 lemon (in two wedges, seeds removed), add in sliced up ginger (peeled) and a generous squeeze of honey. top up with boiling water and leave it for 3-5 minutes so the lemon juice is released. It's tasty and soothing all at once.

I'll then top up on panadol as required, and any day/night remedy that has pseudoephedrine in it (the phenylepherine is next to useless, dries or clears up nothing). I think the last time I had Codral original (in lieu of Sudafed) and it was great.

The worst thing about a cold for me is being stuck on my lounge feeling like cough. You feel so useless and just want to get better (and my current apartment has very little natural light, something I will be fixing in the near future!).

Another cold...2nd one in 3 months:mad:...already in bed!
