Coles gift card offers

I have to pay council rates and I wouldn't get full CC points for that, so these are perfect, $6 discount on rates per card and full AMEX points

I have many bills to pay with them, ATO, council etc, but not going to run around into Coles, hoping they have stock, deal with the questions from staff, get 5 x cards for a saving $36, and then hoping they don't get hacked prior to use and have been activated properly. Added to that, losing targeted FlyBuys offers for months due to high spend on the FlyBuys card.

Plus the less people that buy these the higher the chance of 10% coming back again

So you can pay council rates with these or any gift cards?
Your need a few cards obviously, you pay online or at post office?

You need the Coles/Vanilla Mastercards and do $250.00 payments for council or ATO.

I have churned though many hundreds at 10% off but each time they are getting harder to use/declined more often and I've had 1 hacked which required painful calls to an offshore call centre and many many follow ups to get my money back.

Agreed; I won't be buying this time around.
Yea I was surprised to see many of them at Coles on Friday. Looks like people won't bother for this offer. I got 5 to pay the rates as otherwise I wouldn't score points, but wouldn't have gone to another coles if the one I went had no cards left.

Yep heaps at my locals which is great, means the next offer will be 10% hopefully which is a proper 7.5% discount

Could someone explain to me what the benefit of this sale is?
Could be handy if you have a minimum spend for a CC bonus and there's nothing better available I guess

Or you could just wait a week or two for a real deal

You do (did?) get 3 Amex MR points/$ at Big W with a Platinum Edge card so you could use them at physical shops that don't take Amex I suppose. Bit of an effort for not much reward though

Worryingly I just had 5 of the Coles $100 Mastercards (purple) (bought in the promo about 7 weeks ago) declined at the ATO.

FWIW it's been more than 6 months since I last paid with one at the ATO. They hadn't been hacked because they all went through at my health insurer and energy company.

Did you check the balance online? Pretty annoying if ATO refuses them now. You didnt hit the daily transaction limit with ATO by any chance, it's 10 (+5 via another payment platform) per day.

I tried them all for the usual $99.80 (so $100 after the fee) and when that was declined, I dropped it to $50 to see if that made a difference (which it didn't - $50 was also declined).

I haven't paid anything at the ATO for ~2 months. I was trying to pay a new quarterly instalment.

All 5 cards went through immediately for $100 at my health insurer and energy provider.
