Coles gift card offers

Remarkable coincidence that Coles and Woolies both independently chose to do a 10% off promo just in Vic and Tas on the same week...

Would ACCC notice?

These things might not be collusion, but espionage and double agents across each business.
Promos need to be agreed to and funded by the vendor (not Colesworth), so it could also be the vendor deciding to fund the promo across both. These things are planned at least 12 months in advance.

Colesworth don't fund for promos from their own pockets 😏

I'm guessing the best strategy here is buying $100 gift cards since the bonus is the same irrespective of which denomination you get? In which case, this would work out to 1,000 Velocity points at a cost of $5 (for the activation fee). This of course supposes you can use every cent on those gift cards. This works out to an effective cost of 0.5 cents per point. Not bad!

Don't forget you also get points on the total spend, so each $100 card will actually earn 2105 Flybuys points, so technically it's more like 1053 Velocity points. For those interested in buying the Apple gift cards from Woolies, it's a good opportunity to double dip and score both Velocity + QFF points.

Unless you have a use for higher denomination cards at retailers that don't earn full Amex points

I don't bother with $100, only $250. From my point of view, it's only $2 difference, why wouldn't you buy more points for only $2 more? Pay with Edge card, then use these cards for paying council / Sniip / etc, as these are prepaid cards so they attract lower surcharge at a lot of places, like Sniip. Even if these cards don't attract lower surcharge, AmEx Edge earn more points than any other card on the market, so why wouldn't you wash all your regular spendings using AmEx Edge via these gift cards?!

Sorry, I think I may have missed your strategy? or my maths are broken.......
Following what I understand is your approach --> $500 Council Bill, paying via Sniip, Buying Cards with AmEx Edge
Option 1 = 5 x $100 Cards
This gets 5 x 2,000pts (from promotion) + 525 ( for spend) + 1500 Amex points
Converting to Velocity as the currency, this equals 6012pts for $25. i.e 240pts per dollar
Option 2 = 2 x $250
This Gets 2 x 2,000pts (from promotion) + 514 ( for spend) + 1500 Amex points
Converting to Velocity as the currency, this equals 3007 pts for $14. i.e 214pts per dollar.
So my understanding is you will get more points and at a better value with the $100 approach? The only benefit of the the $250 approach vs $100 option is effort involved in qty of transactions.

Additionally, spend on these cards counts when credit card churning whereas rates (which I'll redeem on) don't... and last Thursday was approved for a new Westpac black card! (requires $6000 spend). So I'm all in.
My only access to this card is on Google Wallet atm, works even though I haven't received/activated the physical card. I'm not really familiar using G wallet with larger spend, any issues with taping $2500 (edit...2x$1250 for 2 accounts) on G wallet at coles checkout?

1: I don't know why you say 2 x $250, you can buy 5.
2: I am not understanding how you got the "525" and "514".

Anyway, these are just cost recovery exercises to cover the $5 or $7 activation fee, I don't really care about these.

What I care is max of 5 cards per account, since the bonus points would cover the activation fees anyway:

$250 x 5 cards = $1250
$100 x 5 cards = $500
(let's just ignore the activate fee, to keep this simple)

If I put $1250 thru my AmEx Edge card, I get $1250 x 3 AmEx per dollar = 3750 AmEx points.
If I put $500 thru my AmEx Edge card, I get $500 x 3 AmEx per dollar = 1500 AmEx points.

Since this promotion is going to cover my card activation fee anyway, why would I choose to earn 1500 points when I could be earning 3750 points?!
