Coles gift card offers

Okay, this has me totally confused now with the switching of threads. This current targetted offer, is it through flybuys, amex, something else??

Note the thread title "Coles gift card offers" and the first message: "This thread discusses current gift card offers available at Coles." So unless the offer had been placed into the wrong thread it could not relate to AMEX. Also note Flybuys = Coles.

Anything discussed in this thread is related to an offering from Coles, targeted or otherwise. It was because people could potentially have become confused in other threads that a separate and more precise thread was created (Coles gift card offers). If you think the title is NOT clear enough please send a message to a moderator.

If you are referring to the $100 Coles Prepaid Gift Card MasterCard offering which ends today it is targeted. If you were in any doubt this was confirmed by Captain Halliday in message #4. It is an offer from Coles. It comes with bonus Flybuys points.

Okay still confused. Obviously on a "need to know" basis, and I don't need.

/bows out of thread.

I have no idea what this means. No one has been secretive about anything in this thread. If things still aren't clear you may want to read from the first message. There are only a total of 21 messages before your first posting.

It was a Coles targeted offer : buy a $100 Coles gift card and you will get 1000 flybuys. You can charge it to any cc in the normal way you do your shopping. Ends at COB today.

Yes and I read every single one which tells utterly nothing to someone first reading the thread. Then I went trawling through 40ish pages from an old thread (which was hinted at in this thread, not linked, so again that took some time) before I found the reference.

http://www.australianfrequentflyer....rds/gift-cards-at-supermarkets-48505-215.html (note that it even has AMEX in the thread title, hence my earlier confusion when I was brusquely told no it wasn't AMEX) for the benefit of others in my situation. And you have to read the pages before that to get the background.

Thank you for summarising getmeouttahere :) Congrats to all who managed to make use of the offer in time.

And that's me done for this promo, my local still had 25+ $100 cards but a lot of them had /17 expiry so had to be careful.

I've only spent a few K on this one but happy with the results and look forward to the next one. :)

I know i read somewhere before about the reason for buying these credit cards but have forgotten and was probably wrapped up in some Amex thing... I want to buy Coles or Bunnings gift cards (i did buy a $20 Bunnings gift card previously to let them know I was interested) but only get offers for lousy David Jones and some Endota spa nonsense or something, not sure how i get them to target me for the gift cards i want...

This thread deals with the Coles gift card and you mention those. That offer was targeted. The offer was to buy a $100 Coles gc and paying on say an AMEX Edge card, you'd get 1000 Flybuys and then the AMEX pays 3 points per $1.

The other offers you refer to - Endota etc came to you from AMEX directly and have nothing to do with Coles, Bunnings or Flybuys.

I read Dr Ralph's original post to mean this thread is for all gift card offers through Coles and not just the current Coles Gift MasterCard offer.

I think Casanovawa is hoping for some better offers through Coles/Flybuys as the recent ones from Coles haven't takes his/her fancy.

My last offer just ended at midnight.

I wrote up a summary of how I value Coles Gift MasterCard purchases. I would be interested to see how it compares to the valuations everyone here gives it or if there are any other value aspects of this that I'm missing? I've collected quite a few MasterCards but haven't actually spent any yet, that's the fun part coming soon. But my plan is to spend mostly at bars and other smaller restaurants that don't accept AMEX.

Is it worth buying Coles Gift MasterCards to earn more points?

I have a feeling more and more stores will stop accepting these cards due to fraud if more and more people know about them.

Just a feeling.

I think this claim is misleading:

'the company runs regular promotions for bonus flybuys points for Coles Gift MasterCard purchases. '

From memory the deal was offered 4 times in 2016. From your claim I get the impression it is much more frequent. You also fail to mention that the Flybuys offer of reward points for purchasing these cards is TARGETED. This should have been explained explicitly.

I'd suggest you have a look at the calculation of points you metnion in the deal as well. There's at least one error that I can see straight away. This being that you get points for the $5 fee you pay.

You have also ignored one of the primary benefits of these Coles Prepaid Gift Card Mastercards. This being that you get to spend the money now. Particularly useful in fulfilling minimum spend requirements to trigger bonus point deals with new credit cards. The sooner this is achieved the sooner you can move onto the next offering.

You also fail to mention that there are severe shortages of cards in some areas and that you are limited to a maximum of 5 cards per transaction. Not to mention the difficulty that many have reported with overly zealous staff. Your brief article suggest that buying these cards is a simple matter. Whereas in reality to get to this example that you provide 'This makes a 139,000 one way European Business Class redemption equal to $945 worth of points plus taxes, which I think is excellent value' would be incredibly time consuming and likely impossible because of the limited number of cards available to most people.

nice write-up but you have missed a few points. you actually get 315MR points when you buy a $100 CGMC (+ $5 activation fee). And an additional 105 flybuys points for the cost of the card. (i didn't think this one worked but i checked my flybuys this morning and get points for buying the card). :D
