Coles gift card offers

Has this always been the case or recently?

I bought a Ultimate gc last week as part of my Coles shopping - all paid for with Coles e-gift card.

I've never bought one of these before but the exact name of the gift card is:

'Australia's most loved restaurants - The restaurant choice'

Starts Wednesday (31/10/2018):

20% off face value of BEST/Pets gift card, The Movie Card, Catch and BEST/Restaurants gift cards.

Limit 10 cards per customer.

Note the 5% off gift cards you can buy for Coles have been working with gift card purchases at Coles. Just make sure that your 5% off card covers the entire value of your transaction. Expect problems if you try to split payment.

$100 Only 1 VISA gift card

Note that the Only 1 VISA gift card has a $5.95 purchase fee. So at just 1000 flybuys points you'll be loosing money on this.

I always got the $100 Visa though, as I used it to pay non Amex purchases.

The best return in terms of initial outlay was always for $30 gift cards and getting 2000 bonus points, such as Ultimate (JB), Hoyts, etc.

Not a complete dud if you have an Edge as the extra points are cheap if you use it where you can't use Amex.After all its a pretty similar deal to the now-defunct eWish method at WW.
Significant deterioration in the offer though. Given the poor offer they could at least have made it unlimited

everytime I see a coles offer. the first thing I look for is the "once per household" clause

As per #511 'Spend $50 or more' So any card greater than $50 is included.

$50 card will get you a better return.

If I wanted to buy between $5000 and $10,000 Coles 5% off plastic gift cards could someone do that for me? Should I just go to Coles and buy face value cards on my Amex Platinum Edge credit card for 3 points per dollar?
I have no trouble getting about $50,000 Woolies ones each year on my Amex Platinum Edge card but I find getting Coles ones to be difficult.

My source has a $1000 per month limit and I get through it. But I have a secondary source that doesn’t have a limit as far as I can tell, but it has a 1% fee and doesn’t take Amex.

I get 5% off coles but unfortunately no AMEX. I churn a visa instead.
