If 2000 points is worth $10 (when redeemed at Coles), there is a $5 profit, so not too much value there. It's also worth 870 Flybuys points (or 15% more if you time it right), put your own value on that, so still not too much value. If you could do multiple per account it wouldn't be so bad.
The 2000 points are worth $10, so you are making a $5 profit. Using a Platinum Edge will get you 315 MR points as well.

$11.05 worth of Flybuys (or 1105 VA points during transfer bonus) + 315-420 Amex MR points with an Edge for $5 is a deal in my book. Especially as they can be spent at online portals.

Not sure you understand the value of flybys points.
2000 points equals $10.
Most people would be happy paying $5 to receive $10.
I'd do this 10,000 times if I could.

Or get a prepaid cc to use somewhere that does not accept (or charges through the nose) Amex, using Amex to buy it so earning extra VFF or other points.
Only downside is what it does to your shopping offers from Coles subsequently. Took months for offer hurdles to come close to reality on 3 accounts.

fyi: picked up a few of those mastercard thinngys
and due to circumstances tried to buy coles myer group gift cards using coles cards,
didnt work, system said "cannot use that tender for that type of purchase" or along those lines,
so strange that mastercards work but coles myer group gift cards dont work

ahh cool, wasnt aware, dont often go to coles as their promos are no where near as good as woolies
