Coles gift card offers

Yeah, no rush. I'm sure the VM eBay deals will be done by the time it happens. Just be nice to grab $500 min for the future.
Woolworths may have an offer sooner than Coles. But on average, shouldn't have to wait more than a month before an offer comes up.

Remember, there are always multiple sources for discounted Ebay gift cards, including some that are available now:

Unfortunately no source available to me for 10% off currently.

It's all good, I'll keep a better eye out.

Can anyone tell me if buying gift cards at Coles contributes to spend for earning Velocity status credits? I’m getting 4 per $100 this month as auto-transferring, so keen to maximise.

Last time I was chasing this (pre-pandemic) they did. Can you check based on any past months' purchases?

Stupid self checkout. Went to get Google Play cards. After scanning the 2nd card, message about getting a scam alert leaflet popped up. After the message was cleared by the attendant, I scanned the 3rd and 4th cards. Then message about maximum number reached. Attendant cleared that message and took my 4th card away. Then I realised the card did go through. So had to call her back with the card. Aarrggh... why so hard? What happened to that limit of 5?

Rant over.

You can do 5, but not without intervention. I usually limit self checkouts to 1 or 2 at most in a transaction, otherwise it attracts too much attention.

Will do next time but the store was out of the $100 cards. I do wonder though if the scam thing is still a thing. Haven't heard about it for a while.

There are multiple recent reports of Coles MasterCard gift cards being compromised, especially the $100 and $250 ones. They appear to be used at merchants that do not check CVV on the cards, ironically Google Play is one of them, seems that card numbers are brute forced along with expiry dates. If anyone has a stash of unused Coles MCs suggest you check the balance and use it up asap.

Have been a victim once. Have only bought those cards once or twice since then. Can't be bothered any more until the security/packaging of those cards are upgraded.

Google Play is one of them? I went to add a card and it asks for CVV?

How can they be compromised? As in the packaging has been tampered with?
I'm not exactly sure myself as it's beyond my IT abilities, but in the forum linked in my original post it appears to be a brute force - CVV is irrelevant, expiry is the same for huge batches of cards, then with the card number the first 8 digits are the same, the 9th digit refers to denomination, it then leaves 7 digits to guess with the last one being the checksum, so effectively only 6 digits to go through.

The fact that merchants like Google and Amazon are susceptible to this is also concerning.

Moral of the story: don't stash the cards, use them asap after purchase.
