Coles gift card offers

There are multiple recent reports of Coles MasterCard gift cards being compromised, especially the $100 and $250 ones. They appear to be used at merchants that do not check CVV on the cards, ironically Google Play is one of them, seems that card numbers are brute forced along with expiry dates. If anyone has a stash of unused Coles MCs suggest you check the balance and use it up asap.

Where are these reports?

I've used more than 250 of these cards this year alone, no problems at all.

How can they be compromised? As in the packaging has been tampered with?

One type is the brute force referred to above. The other, for which I was a victim, was someone tampered with the packaging and put another random card in there. So that crim would keep checking every so often so see if the original card number has been activated.

After starting to use up my remaining cards, I can confirm these reports. Unfortunately.

I had a $100 card hit as per screenshot below.

Note my attack was Monday - a day after these reports emerged.

I'm awaiting a callback from a "supervisor" to resolve.

Sorry to hear @Captain Halliday. Please keep us updated on your 'hopefully not too prolonged' efforts to recover these funds.

I've checked my remaining cards (not many) and found no issue.

My call back came yesterday.

I was advised they were very aware if this issue. The agent gave the impression they'd had plenty of calls.

He went on to say the disputes team had yet to decide if refunds would be processed back to the card , or be a direct deposit in my back account.

He then requested my bank account details and said he's entered them in the spreadsheet. Sounds secure. 🤔

"If you don't see either a bank deposit or email confirming the refund to the gift card by next Friday, give us a call back."

So I made the mistake of forgetting to scan Flybuys when buying 5x gift cards. Can they be credited retrospectively? At the same Coles or any Coles or via online support?

Deleted my earlier post. Misunderstood.

Thanks for the heads up. I’ll collect a bunch and load them into my Apple account. Wonder if coles still have hard copies of their catalog at the front of their stores still. I’m tired of arguing with the staff at my local over scams so might come armed with proof of the promo.

The link doesn't mention the variable (20-500) gift cards but I assume loading up the $500 on them will accrue the bonus. I may or may not have 5 that I picked up yesterday but forgot to activate. Could that be a problem tomorrow?

Don't know how you can possibly earn the stated max of 75k points based on these T&Cs (when largest card is $200 and max 5 cards allowed)
