Coles gift card offers

They're still selling the cards so they obviously haven't "run out". Why bother running a promo if you don't actually want to sell the product?
Maybe they had a preset number they were willing to sell at 10% off and when they reached it, they pulled the promo? I was surprised it actually lasted 3 full days....if it wasn't for the difficulty in actually buying the cards, I would have bought more!

Not surprised it has gone early - actually I was surprised it lasted this long. Very lucrative deal and so much easier than trying to find the same cards at Coles when there is a promo on. I prepaid rates, water, gas / electric, internet and super (via Sniip).

Back to the day job now.

We have a problem with a $100 card we bought in April - made a purchase at Coles for $60+ yesterday, took the card out of the envelope to use and received insufficient funds message so just paid with Amex. Checked balance today to see that 2 overseas transactions from end April have been made on the card. Contacted Coles/MC and told that we need to provide the register receipt for the card, which we no longer have, before they will investigate.

yeah that stinks, who keeps receipts, I mean woolworths mine are set to online receipts, which gives you half a chance to go back & find it.
Coles don't seem to have this option yet.

Contacted our local Coles and they will try and find the card through a register search. I’ve printed out the Amex statement which shows the total purchase amounts for the 4 days we made the purchases so hopefully that will help.

Good luck, but i believe it'll be upto coles on an individual case if they decide to assist you.

Off topic, but I recently fought over a $100 gift card that expired, but only had a 12month expiry which was issued 2021 & by law every gift card issued after 2018 (i think) has to have a 36month expiry, was a battle & cost me too much time, but got the card reissued.
Sometimes I believe they'll only bend for you if you really push them & keep hassling them, but time is what it is, is it really worth it in the end I ask myself.

Does anyone know of their systems would have a record of cards that failed to activate? I’ve discovered a $250 card I bought in October and seems to have not activated. Declined when I go to use it and get an error message when trying to check the balance.

When a card isn't activated successfully, it usually prints a declined slip at the register. May need to try to chase up that receipt.

Yes I know it says that on the receipt but unfortunately it’s long gone. I usually check at the time of purchase but didn’t this time for some reason. Surely they would have some record of it being declined? Anyway, we will see and I’ll report back.

Here’s an unsolicited tip for keeping track of gift cards and receipts

Create two folders in your notes
One for ongoing gift cards, and one for used gift cards

When you purchase gift cards, create a note with the card numbers and details for easy copying and pasting, but then also take a photo of the receipt (if you have an iPhone you can use the scan function)

And yes I keep the data of the used ones too and sometimes note where I spent it. I’ve had a refund go back to a gift card before.

Woolies don't send you the voucher activation dockets though - they are printed (and are what need to be kept because they have the details of the voucher on them). Remember that they are "gift" cards, as in, it's expected they'd be given away as gifts (and therefore not with the purchase receipt.)

I have a file where I keep my gift cards and their activation dockets for this reason and only throw them away when the card has been used.

I keep mine for 12 months. You'd be surprised at the number of times businesses have refunded to these cards after many months have elapsed.

If you're playing this game seriously, then I think you do need to be prepared to keep the used cards and receipts for a minimum of 12 months.
