Current car insurance ~$360 with Budget Direct (includes 15% discount), quote with Coles Insurance $703!

That is why it pays to shop around.

Is that comprehensive or third party?

Anyway I have 3rd party with Budget Direct at around ~$350 and got quoted ~$295 with Coles, however the excess is $600.

I also checked out comprehensive with both, for Coles they quoted me ~$1200 and BD quoted me ~$560! :D

Considering I am now back working full time after coming back from study, I think I will be going back to comprehensive insurance considering how cheap the quote BD offered me. Then a year after the BD policy finishes I will see if Coles will give me a better quote or price match the comprehensive insurance from BD.

Comprehensive.

Don't forget that by purchasing online with most insurers then you get a 10% online discount which does not apply once you renew the insurance. So it is always good to shop around.

And then things like cashback schemes and Budget Buddy are also good ways to save more money.

My Coles renewal was only a few dollars off the price I paid last year...

Have you checked the market value of the car? That could also have a part to play in the calculagted premium.

FWIW my Budget Direct renewal in April was cheaper than the previous year as well.

Just invoke the Coles "Price Beat Guarantee".

I didn't need to as the quote was cheaper in any case.

FWIW, In ballpark figures, last year's insurance was $390, renewal was quoted at $425. This was comprehensive at Market value with an $800 excess & no driver under 40 yo.

Coles' quote was for $330 comprehensive with $750 excess with additional excess for a driver under 25 yo.

On calling BD they, surprisingly, were able to offer the same insurance as they had asked $425 for at $335 - where did that $90 discount come from?

In any case, by having Coles insurance, for us there are about $40 in additional Flybuys benefits so BD needed to find another $50 or so.

I moved a car onto Coles insurance a year ago. Just got the renewal, and no real surprises in the renewal fee.

SWMBOs car just got moved from RACV to VirginMoney inurance. The 5000 Velocity points helped with that decision!

I guess from the same place the Coles "Price Beat Guarantee" comes from.

I think you will find most insurance businesses (not just car insurance) hope you do not look at your renewal in detail or ring around. I was insured with NRMA for many years and I never shopped around until last year. These days I will shop around with every renewal.

OP - nice timing.

My AMMI renewal arrived this week. Bit of a shock to see that they now want to slug me $1,656 for home/contents insurance  Don't live in a flood affected location and have lodged one claim (5K) in around 20 years of insurance.

Early this year I went thru the same thing when opening the renewals for the cars.........shopped around and found Youi were the cheapest my many hundreds of dollars.

AAMI......can get nicked!

I agree up to a point about price.
BUT the price sensitive ( customer) in my 30 years of insurance experience are the ones with the greatest disappointment at claim time.
Not always. But often, make sure you compare apples with apples

EDIT. Just completed the Coles on-line quote - they want to charge me $2,945:shock:

AAMI - I didn't mean it - truly;)

Same here. One year I decided to compare my renewal with what the same company would offer a new customer. I was stunned at the difference. These days, I do a quick compare the meerkats, and see what it throws up. If things are fairly well line, then I don't change, but if there is serious misalignment (such as what happened with RACV), then move on...

Did you end up going with Youi? I am with Budget Direct but was thining about getting a quote off Youi

Sure did.

AAMI renewal for two cars $1,942.86

Youi for the same cars, excess & value = $1,145.70:D

We were with AAMI for 20+ years.

I'll get a few quotes once the vehicles are up for renewal later this year... I might add the home and contents in there to keep it all together.

Hmm, I have everything with NRMA, It's worth some multi-policy discount too.

Mind you, I just got a new van and insured it through Real Insurance for way less than NRMA. Did the business insurance through AAMI. Again way cheaper.

But what really counts is claim time (haven't had one for a long time though). But my panelbeater mate tells me NRMA are the least painful.

Wesfarmers paid up when the Coles car wash ripped the rear spoiler of the Freelander though. No probs. 5.5K So I may consider them at renewal time.

Do Woolies do insurance? lol.

Any feedback from those who switched over to Coles insurance early in the piece would be appreciated.

Have you received your first renewal? How does that compare with original quote?

I never switched to Coles. The quote Coles gave me was more than double of an existing quote
