Wow, those numbers are crazy!!

Interesting that a plus fare gets the wiggle but a starter fare doesn't ...

Starter Max ~

You’d have thought though, to be consistent, all the cheapest JQ fares on the QF site should be Starter Plus, or at least:

Red e-Deal = Starter
Flexi Saver = Starter Plus
Fully Flexible = Starter Max

ozbeachbabe and I had the same idea, hence why I also have a Starter fare "with no additions", and hence got 0 and 0.

The convenience of chucking it all on one itinerary was a good one for me, even though it might've been a piece of cake to accommodate the alternative anyway. In addition, I wanted to use points to pay for my JQ35 flight (I was on a serious cash budget so I booked an ASA and a liberal number of points to reduce the cash paid).

Like ozbeachbabe I was weighing up the possibility of selecting the Max fare on the ASA booking screen. In the end I decided it wasn't worth it, even at full Y level.

Plus fare gets discount Y credits; Max fare gets full Y.

Before the fare structure change it was nothing or full Y.

Oddly enough, Starter fares on the QF website come with baggage (standard 20 kg / 23 kg or whatever it is), which the JQ site does not 'include'. Ditto with the Max fares on the QF website (yes, it is possible to buy Max fares with no baggage).

It is odd that QF only offer the 2 fare products from JQ, although on the bright side at least they do come with baggage. The positioning of the fares within the matrix is odd (i.e. occupying the Flexi Saver and Fully Flexible spaces) as it was before, and the continuing practice seems to be a bit of a holdover.

Well it was a great day, and fantastic to catch up with old and new faces.

Luckily the women's final was a short one and I was able to finish earlier than expected to join the remaining people for a late night drink!

I can't remember the last time I sat so far back in the plane (the jokes were running thick about "I never knew there were that many rows") and was funny seeing the amazement on peoples faces when we told them we all flew in for lunch!

Just completed a survey about JQ35. Final suggestion = Give me a plus fare instead of checked baggage allowance when booking on the Qantas (part of the Qantas Group) Website.

Very true! Most interesting jetstar flight I've ever taken :)

And contrary to Lawlass's initial accusations, It was not me who spoke to the CSM!! Although i may have heard some whispers of it!

Don't worry - Lawlass quite firmly pointed the finger at me when I arrived at dinner.

I tried to explain that I was a definite accessory to the act - but she was having none of it.

There was no way I would have been able to do it without cracking up - it was too funny.

Thank you Comrade Medhead for achieving a convincing performance to the CSM ;)

Second time you've mentioned my name. If people don't get it the first time, there is no need to repeat. ;)

That was after said finger was first pointed at me!!

Sorry ;)

Take it as a compliment - was very impressive.

I look forward to the next event we're both at :)

(Lawlass - watch out ;))

I want to thank everyone for making me feel very welcome at my first F lounge run and AFF event. I had a wonderful time, especially seeing all the antics that goes on. I'm certainly going to try to attend more AFF events, and have Xmas in June penciled in. It was unfortunate that I couldn't make it for dinner as I had existing plans. But I did have an interesting conversation with my friend that night, which went something like this...

Friend: So where were you again when I called you?
Me: Oh, I was in the Virgin Lounge.
F: The Virgin Lounge.
M: Yep, at Melbourne Airport.
F: But I though you arrived Wednesday night.
M: Yeah, I did. I was just doing a day trip to to Sydney.
F: You flew Virgin to Sydney for the day?
M: Umm... not really. I caught a 9:30 Qantas flight to Sydney then checked into a Jetstar flight from the international terminal back to Melbourne.
F: Why?
M: Had lunch with a group of people in the First Lounge in Sydney.
F: The what lounge?
M: The First Lounge. You know that Qantas has a Business Lounge for international flights right?
F: No, but go on.
M: They also have a First Class Lounge, so we had lunch there.
F: So you can use this First Lounge because your work pays for it?
M:
F: You know, the Qantas Club thing.
M: No, you can only use the Business Lounge with the Qantas Club. You have to be Platinum for the First Lounge.
F: Oh, so it's through status.
M: Yes.
F: So you spent over $200 to fly up to Sydney for lunch?
M: Well... I only paid around $100 for my Qantas flight up, then $50 for my Jetstar flight down.
F: So you spent $150 to fly up to Sydney just to have lunch in the First Lounge.
M: Yeah, but the food's really good.
F: What? Wagyu beef or something?
M: No... I had eggs benedict, 3 lattes, champagne, salt and pepper squid, and some pavlova.

[A moment passes]

F: That's insane. YOU ARE INSANE! (Then walks off shaking his head)
M:

LOL - I think because I understand your side of this conversation is why we get along! Shame I couldn't make it.

Also received the survey - final piece of advice to win my $500-

Send the onboard crew to finishing school. Have them focus on Smiling 101, Manners 102 and Eye Contact 103 :)

You could turn that into one of those FF You Tube Animations ;)

I had a similar conversation with Shrek the other night regarding a planned itinerary I have on an upcoming LOTFAP trip.
He thought I was going to Vegas to shop until I explained that it was more of a departure point for a little side-trip.
The word "Insane" crept up in that conversation multiple times

As a final note to my saga. When I got home I sent a complaint about the cancellation drama and a thank you to the staff at Avalon airport. Today I received a $100 jetstar voucher in the email. No explanation attached to the email. In the end it cost me nothing for the day if I use this voucher for another flight. Good outcome.
