OzBB suggests you ask for the cab voucher at Avalon to ensure that you ate able to travel to your destination on arrival. It is suggested you DON'T wait until arrival at BNE.

To top off the night...

Just home now after the family Chinese new year celebration dinner (yes I know it is a few days late, but better then never). I had a great time meeting everyone, new faces and some people I've met before. Heaps of great tips. And even being able to do some plane spotting and ask out loud those questions I normally keep in my head. Over hearing discussions of people's IT projects, it sounds like you all have great ideas, even without a demo. I really look forward to your success just to make my life easier. ;)

Even more special to be involved in a birthday and an engagement!

Thanks everyone. Are we trip reporting or just randomly posting pictures.

Avalon manager has organised a limo home for me on arrival in BNE.
Thats better Jetstar.

maggies1

Lim glad it worked out. I'm really sorry I couldn't help when you rang, I had no idea what to do, I wouldn't have thought to ask for a cab voucher. Good to pick up that tip.

Maggies1 I hope you get home okay. Good to see that Sarah's advice yielded a limo / voucher.

I am sad that I missed the main event, some mid-flight singing, and the announcement of an engagement!

However a big thanks to those who made it to dinner/drinks in MEL this evening. As always, it was great to see some old friends and meet some new faces :-)

The night was topped off by some conveniently timed Chinese New Year fireworks that half the group missed :p. Whoops!

Dinner was good, especially given how late it was organised. The food bill was very reasonable, although the bar tab was larger than I thought. Who would have thought people would drink alcohol at an AFF event? :p;)

When I arrived at BNE there was a car waiting for me. I have to say that the check in staff at Avalon went out of their way to assist me with meal voucher and car home. Surprised to see a lot of people sleeping in the terminal on chairs in the check in area when I arrived in BNE. I was upset that I would be stranded late at night and have to pay for a hotel through no fault fault of my own. Flying back to Sydney with Qantas tonight. All ended ok

maggies1

In the DJ lounge waiting for my flight back to BNE/CNS (delayed :)).

Awilcockson, Mal and Trippin hopefully made their flight after missing the lounge calls ;)

Thanks to everyone for a great weekend.

Looking forward to AKL and Surfers :)

Was a good end to the day last night - thank you to penegal and Lawlass for organising.

Woke up this morning late, tried to work off some of yesterday's gluttony. Was going to catch up with former AFFer Misha and my sister's Godmother, but both cancelled due to scheduling complications.

So now I'm in the J Lounge at MEL T1. We were risking an evacuation at checkin due to a ******* goose who left his satchel unattended in the middle of the floor. (Had a vent on Twitter about this). Luckily he picked up the bag so the massive security lines could keep on going. Thankfully I'm in the lounge with a snack, soup and drink, trying to forget how close I was to throttling that idiot.

Mmmmm... this pumpkin and lentil soup is delicious...

Did you hear any boarding calls? Lounge staff said they called 3 times yet I don't recall hearing anything. No paging either.

Great couple of days catching up with everyone and a HUGE THANK YOU to you ALL for signing the card and of course the highly embarrasing happy birthday on the plane. Can't wait to do it again in a different place/city/flight soon!

Yep. Pretty hard to hear calls which aren't actually made.... Lounge dragon claimed 3 calls were made. Nope. Gate agent claimed calls were made. Nope. First alleged call was made when the syd bound flight was boarding. Yeah right.. I sniff a cover up.

All calls for flights right now are on the mark. In any case, we're spoilt here - which is why I'm more jumpy in most other lounges overseas.

On that note, I'd better move - my flight's at gate 8.

I apologise - I should have mentioned that I missed your boarding calls too ;)

Perhaps calls for relevant flights aren't made in the AFF zone;)?

BTW - glad to see you made your flight and that it left on time ;)

Reminds me of my experience at Mel F lounge late last year!

http://www.australianfrequentflyer....on/poor-mel-qf-f-lounge-32953.html#post489927

I remember hearing about that one KPC! We experienced the reverse situation in the Flounge ie first, further & final boarding calls for JQ35 only to get down to the gate to find boarding hadn't even commenced!

For any future travel I suggest we get a JQ 'Patsy' who can be a scout, head down to the gate & tell us when it's really boarding. Fifa kindly nominated her "+1" for this duty next time as he likes to get to the boarding gate half an hour before boarding. We have a winner.

Great to meet all these new faces & hear about the many & varied careers they all have.

Awilcockson is on a mission to find out whether Flounge martini's underwent an AFF weekend 'enhancement' ie served sans alcohol.

I'm on a mission to find out why the JQ portion of SO's award ticket ticket (JASA BNE/SYD on QF Starter fare SYD/MEL on JQ) is forfeited & cannot be put into credit despite being cancelled at least 24 hours in advance. Don't all domestic airlines allow you to cancel a flight & put it into credit as long as you cancel the day prior? That's the way I read the fare conditions which I read throughly & printed out so will dig them out.

I'm certain it's all to hard because QF & JQ having different res systems - QF issue a ticket for their flight & JQ flights are 'ticketless'. If I'd booked JQ35 via the JQ website they would've put it into a credit shell so appears people are penalised if doing multi sector itineraries via the QF website.

The JQ A330 VH-EBB was the same rego used in another life for a QF 747-200. QF gave it the nickname "buckets of bolts" & I think it would be an appropriate nickname to carry forward to the current aircraft!

The MEL/BNE flight was my first on one of the new 738's with the AVOD in the seatback so listened to the soundtrack to Reservoir Dogs & Pulp Fiction on the way home. I noticed several pax were pulled up at the gate for oversize hand luggage that IMHO was just normal carry on size however was not surprised when I saw the CSM who has a 'take no prisoners' approach to carry on.

Look forward with great anticipation to the next meet up.

It was a great weekend to catch up with everyone.

QF8 to Sydney was good, the transfer from 1 international flight to another was painless, so it was a quick transfer to the First Lounge.

The First lounge staff were again very good.

Great to sing Happy Birthday to trippin_the_rift on JQ35.

Thanks for the Virgin lounge staff in Melbourne for welcoming us to the lounge and to show off the new lounge menu.

Thanks to Penegal and Lawlass for organizing a dinner location for Saturday night.

My flight up to Brisbane this afternoon was a non event, how flights should be, and then I spent an hour in the Qantas lounge before the rest of the crowd arrived back into Brisbane.

Thanks to Ozbeachbabe for giving me a lift to and from the airport. :)

Now back to work and I don't have any flights planned until April. :( I might have to book a trip away.

I am sure I will see some of you next month.

Happy Flighting, (I was watching Come Fly with Me on QF8 in my nice PE seat down to Sydney)
