Funny that this thread comes alive again as my deliveries have just re-startd...

They stopped after about 9 months and I didn't really care

However about 3 weeks ago deliveries started again, along with a note saying that the home deliveries are now done by a different delivery group in my area

Strange but always good to have a newspaper for some more fire-starting :)

I never received a single copy after signing up. Did receive an email last week and files it in the trash folder. Nothing worse than being offered sumthin for nuthin, getting the hopes up and then gettin nuthin.

Yet another VA benefit bites the dust. Is it just me or do these 'temporary' benefits seem to be taking the gloss of VA elite?

I'm glad for the extra benefits I had on initially reaching status but when they're once-offs (think HH etc as well) it just reinforces that the VA program still has a way to go to beat some others, at least for long-term benefits.

Given the offer was available from 18 April 2012 to 2 May 2012 it seems a bit late to complain about it biting the dust now?

It was more that it is representative of VA philosophy atm rather than AFR specifically. My point is that at VA the extra benefits appear to be focusing on non-renewable self-limiting promotional ones (e.g. this 12-mth AFR thing, one year HH membership etc), rather than anything permanent. The actual benefit was quite nice while it lasted, but the trend is towards temporary once-off offers over improving permanent benefits, and I think that is neither consistent or attractive for members in the long-term.

I think your looking at the icing as opposed to the cake, thinking family pooling, fly ahead and family holiday reward seat requests as examples of the cake! I suspect Hilton and the car rental companies are happy with the increase in biz from the once off offers, while their members with status may not appreciate an ongoing status elevation for nothing offer.

Well as I have said previously I have had no problems with getting the AFR. I have stopped it several times for up to 6 weeks. It has been easy dealing with the AFR subscription dept by email. The paper was due to stop in August, BUT the local newsagent has decided to stop delivering all papers from 30 June !!!!!:(

We've enjoyed the service, too, after some initial problems with having delivery made to a secure building, outside working hours. The delivery agent eventually came up with a clever approach that overcame the earlier tendency for the paper to "walk" before we could collect it. :)

Now in Europe, so don't know if our service is to come to a sudden stop. It was good while it lasted anyway. Thank you, Virgin! :)

As much as I hate to drag this thread back from the dead, I find myself with the opposite problem - how to make the papers stop?

My "1 year subscription" should have finished back in May 2013 yet is still being delivered every week, nearly 10 months after it should have stopped. I've now got that house on the market so I thought it might be a good idea to stop the paper deliveries before new owners move in.

Unfortunately it seems none of the call centre operators at Virgin know anything about this program. I've been bounced from VA staff to Velocity staff and back again, but nobody knows what I'm talking about.

Does anyone know who I can contact to get the paper cancelled, or should I just be adding "perpetual AFR Weekend delivery" into the inclusions list for the house??

I had tried that - my closest newsagent doesn't do deliveries, so I've got no idea which of the other newsagents nearby might be responsible for dropping it off each morning. Of course I'm never up early enough on a Saturday morning to collar the delivery guy either.

When I called I had no idea of my subscriber number or whatever they asked for, but they were still able to work it out for me.

And now my deliveries don't work at all.. you don't happen to live in #8 on the corner? :-)
