I was picking up a friend from the airport today, however his flight was delayed a little bit so I had some time to spare.

When I was going through security I noticed a bunch of men/women in suits (around 6 people) holding clipboards and displaying their Qantas branded ASIC, as well as a Gold Coast Airport manager of some sorts. Being the Aviation geek that I am, I watched them for a little bit.

They first walked into the Jetstar lounge for 10-20mins and came out, I watched them go to each of the gates and take some measurements, write notes on their clipboard and talk to ground crew where they stood on the tarmac and pointed to the 737 line on the ground.

A little sprinkle of rain forced them to move inside, sitting at one of the seats next to the gate where I overheard "We only board via the front stairs, Qantas won't need a 737 Rear" or something similar.

After a little while and a lot of notes (and yes, I watched them have a peek at the VA Lounge construction) they appeared to leave the terminal.

I'm no expert, but I got the impression they were inspecting the airport in preparation for Qantas to return to OOL. What do others think?

One can only hope you are right.

I would say that rather than stalking, your level of situational awareness was very high :!:

If you are correct you can thank VA .

Competition produces a big win for AFF members.

Also watch the J* lounge turn into a QP in the blink of an eye.

Nothing really to do with competition as DJ have always been there. It's just due to DJ going more 'premium', which is not necessarly competition, especially if QF isn't there already!

Fingers crossed you are right...

And I'd just say you are highly observant!!!

Have been many rumours about QF Link making an appearance there for a while now, especially with the additional 717 capacity coming online and over to the East.

Fingers crossed! I hope it's not just a bunch of charters or something....

Maybe Red Roo could try and find out for us??!

The terminal could get a little tight if QF come back not as a replacement for JQ.

True, it has been bursting at the seams in the past few weeks.

LiamR, as a young man you've at least 2 things you need to learn:
  1. How to spell, and
  2. How to spite people with false hope

;) :D

If QF did come back to OOL, would you fly with them after they abandon you and left you with JQ (and DJ/VA, Tiger)????

(If l lived on the Gold Coast, l wouldn't as a matter principle - QF shafted me, l'll shaft 'em back.)

If they did return, the complainers would have to support it in force. Loads of less than 50% on a 737 isn't going to make money so they will pull the pin again. The question is, are people going to pay a premium just for QF? I still think a lot of the people upset that they aren't flying there anymore make thier decisions based on the bill........

Virgin's purpose built lounge overlooking the apron will be better than anything done in the Jetstar windowless box in the centre of the terminal.

I used to really like the old QP there with it's windows overlooking a green tropical garden then further out onto the ramp and the aircraft.

Unless thing change dramatically one thing QP's seem to have over DJ Lounges is a larger beverage selection.

I can't comment on the rumour that QF is to return to OOL, however I do understand* that QF has taken out a restraining order against a Gold Coast man for stalking its employees at OOL.

:p

*should be replaced with "I have made up a story?" and the poster has no understanding at all...of anything!!!

King Charles "Hello Qantas, can I book a flight to the Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast please"
Qantas "Sorry your highness, we dont fly there, we could put you on Jetstar"
King Charles hangs up.

Now now, he can be booked onto a QF codeshare, and only find out he is flying JQ when he arrives at the airport.

"Oh I'm sorry your highness, you are flying Jetstar today, please proceed to Terminal Two, it's just a short walk through the carpark"
