[Confirmed] Qantas to return to Gold Coast?

That’s a long drive to Byron… from the Coast alone, let alone BNE!

Which is why an Audi A6 or A5 Cabriolet is the perfect vehicle. My preference is Byron over the Gold Coast, however you cannot hire any luxury vehicles from BNK.

Recently we did 3 nights at the new Hilton OOL, which was pleasant, but even at 30 years old, I'm far too old to be hanging around The Esplanade at night. We drove down to Byron for 2 of the 3 days and had a very relaxed long weekend.

But if you did, theoretically QF would return sooner strangely enough!

If more business travellers flew JQ it might show they were there, but it would also show they have a service they’re happy to use. QF would need to see Virgin’s numbers for J to decide if the market was ready and I’m not sure Virgin wants to reveal that, unless to taunt?

I've been hearing the rumour about QF returning to OOL since about two weeks after they left OOL! the word I'm hearing is that QF see OOL as a purely
leisure destination and that's why they leave it to JQ to service,I can't honestly see that changing anytime soon, that's not to say that it won't happen
anything is possible but frankly I won't be holding my breath for it.
Cheers
N'oz

Maybe they need to actually ask people. Maybe I'm in the minority but I will fly to OOL on DJ. I would fly there on Qantas but I will not fly there on JQ (by choice).

It's not all about the J market, it is also very much about the fares those down the back are willing to pay.

Do this drive all the time. From centre of Byron to OOL carpark in normal traffic is 45min - I have done it in 35. When I used to live on northern beaches in Sydney Avalon to SYD? Any number from 1 to 1 1/2 hours. BNE to Byron 1 hr 45 min and it's an easy drive.

Interesting
I fly ex ool weekly
I can say all the bizoids are well and truly on Virgin.
Esp after the status match programme
I did hear Qtass were reconsidering OOL due to Commonwealth Games traffic and even reconsidering a lounge now Virgins Lounge is about to open.
Cld all be rumor though.

Not sure if your are agreeing or disagreeing. To clarify a lot of the posting above was about Qantas wanting to capture the J market, ie those up front. My point was what Qantas needs to capture is those down the back who are flying for business, are not price conscious or don’t want to fly Jetstar. Now if there are enough of them, then yes it makes sense for Qantas to return as they can make money on the route. However if they are still in the minority and the route is price conscious then it makes no sense as they will make a loss. The fact that Virgin is carrying them doesn’t mean there is enough for Qantas to do so, especially with it’s higher cost base.

I guess yet another reason why Qantas needs to reform it's work force if it wants to remain competative with Virgin and stay in existance.

Qantas are returning to OOL in late October operating a daily flight from SYD to OOL operated by a 737-800:lol:

A mod had better rename or append a tag to the title indicating this is no longer a rumour, and then also provide a link to the new thread, then close this one:!:
