Or ask "can I go down to xx_xx points" (where xx_xx is the the classic award number of points)
Except that there are some routes where you'd want to go lower, e.g. ADL>SYD>SIN or CBR>SYD>HBA.
When I booked last week I did ask if the CSA was using a slider, and I think she said she was.I'd try not to use the term "points plus pay". It's a different booking system AFAIK.
I say "I know there's not a slider anymore but can you give me a few points/dollar points" or something like that. Or ask "can I go down to xx_xx points" (where xx_xx is the the classic award number of points)
Is that possible?

Ok, finally got there. The CSO ('Jacqueline') had no idea what I was asking for, but she did note that she was just back from LSL! After initially saying it couldn't be done, she then looked up the instructions. She still couldn't work it out so had to consult someone more senior. We eventually worked through it together once Jacqueline got what I was trying to do and stopped trying to offer me a Classic Award. She did try to charge a booking fee but I said 'Qantas has advised there should be no booking fee'. She seemed a bit dubious that this couldn't be booked online but I think in the end she believed me, because why would I be going through all that hassle if I could have done it myself! Jacqueline tried very hard to be helpful even though she was just working it out as she went along, and we had a laugh in the end. She asked if any of the other CSOs seemed to know how to do this and I said I'd heard they didn't. She warned not to be upset if they get a bit cranky when we ask for these bookings and they don't know what to do! I said it wasn't their fault that Qantas had changed the system and not trained them to deal with the consequences.
Anyhoo, got the flights I wanted for the right number of points and just a bit more co-pay than I expected. Thanks guys for your help. It will be worth it if I can crack WP
Tried one today. Quote "I have no idea what you are talking about" when I requested an ASA booked at classic points levels or into a classic bucket.
Epic fail.
....... before proceeding to quote a cash co-payment of about 2.5x that of Classics to which I declined and hung up.
Is it fair to say that the co-payment for a JASA should be the same as for a classic? Or should it be lower or a bit higher?

Mrsbuzzard & I were looking at a trip to AKL.
Classic (J) 72,000 + $281.25ea
JASA 72,000 + $641.25 ea
Thats quite a difference - $720 more for the 2 of us.
You will get back at least 6000 points and 240 status credits each for $360. Many would think that was worth it. But everyone has different goals.
Real question is whether Trans Tasman J is worth paying for.

Oh and consider looking for a classic award on an Emirates A380.
I found one today for the two of us: 54,000 points each and $90 each from Melbourne. Some may consider this a better option. Of course you have to get to Melbourne
