Resisting the urge to say "bewdy", but thanks again Newk, that makes sense and I'll report back. Cheers!

Re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26] was 10Apri

Or ask "can I go down to xx_xx points" (where xx_xx is the the classic award number of points)

Except that there are some routes where you'd want to go lower, e.g. ADL>SYD>SIN or CBR>SYD>HBA.

Yes. Lol. I'm still trying to understand that. An advanced technique that I haven't mastered. I am disappointed with my attempt at booking a hopping ASA. :)

Re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26] was 10Apri

I'd try not to use the term "points plus pay". It's a different booking system AFAIK.
I say "I know there's not a slider anymore but can you give me a few points/dollar points" or something like that. Or ask "can I go down to xx_xx points" (where xx_xx is the the classic award number of points)
When I booked last week I did ask if the CSA was using a slider, and I think she said she was.

HTML:
Is that possible?

Basically all intra Europe flights from Perth are emirates operated Qantas code shares. Looking at next years work schedule I have 4 returns to Moscow, 3 to the uk and a few Asian flight most probably on Cathay. Unless some domestics pop up that's all emirates metal with qf code shares

I had booked 3 MASAs so far.

They all asked me how many points I want to use.

Reply was 'the Classic number' which I had researched and had it on display at time of booking.

Once, I cheekily asked if I could go lower, the reply was a firm NO.

All 3 MASAs involved indirect routings.

Re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26] was 10Apri

When I booked last week I did ask if the CSA was using a slider, and I think she said she was.

Ok, finally got there. The CSO ('Jacqueline') had no idea what I was asking for, but she did note that she was just back from LSL! After initially saying it couldn't be done, she then looked up the instructions. She still couldn't work it out so had to consult someone more senior. We eventually worked through it together once Jacqueline got what I was trying to do and stopped trying to offer me a Classic Award. She did try to charge a booking fee but I said 'Qantas has advised there should be no booking fee'. She seemed a bit dubious that this couldn't be booked online but I think in the end she believed me, because why would I be going through all that hassle if I could have done it myself! Jacqueline tried very hard to be helpful even though she was just working it out as she went along, and we had a laugh in the end. She asked if any of the other CSOs seemed to know how to do this and I said I'd heard they didn't. She warned not to be upset if they get a bit cranky when we ask for these bookings and they don't know what to do! I said it wasn't their fault that Qantas had changed the system and not trained them to deal with the consequences.

Anyhoo, got the flights I wanted for the right number of points and just a bit more co-pay than I expected. Thanks guys for your help. It will be worth it if I can crack WP :)

Tried one today. Quote "I have no idea what you are talking about" when I requested an ASA booked at classic points levels or into a classic bucket.

Epic fail.

I had an identical reply 2-3 days ago.

But - to her credit - she responded to my prompt "Could you look up Reference on Q #7740" and slowly worked her way through the MASA booking.

So, yes, it could still be salvageable.

But I had also come across a plum British accent who stated "I had that card in front of me" before proceeding to quote a cash co-payment of about 2.5x that of Classics to which I declined and hung up.

He may be lying but if not, it is interesting to have two different outcomes from one instruction card.

Is it fair to say that the co-payment for a JASA should be the same as for a classic? Or should it be lower or a bit higher?

It can vary. Generally, traditionally a little higher - but easily made up for by the points you earn back. Have recently had a booking where the copay was less on an mASA however. So YMMV

I've never seen one the same or lower, but have had some only a handful of dollars above it.

Mrsbuzzard & I were looking at a trip to AKL.
Classic (J) 72,000 + $281.25ea
JASA 72,000 + $641.25 ea
Thats quite a difference - $720 more for the 2 of us.

You will get back at least 6000 points and 240 status credits each for $360. Many would think that was worth it. But everyone has different goals.

The difference between the two is a bargain. Real question is whether Trans Tasman J is worth paying for. It is not very exciting. If you are paying in points / $, at least pay a bit more and get the SCs.

Agreed - second rate. Bring back the 767.

Oh and consider looking for a classic award on an Emirates A380.
I found one today for the two of us: 54,000 points each and $90 each from Melbourne. Some may consider this a better option. Of course you have to get to Melbourne :)

*edit to add that this is one way

Wow, $641, that's incredible - only 6m ago it was around $400 - that's over 50% increase. $641!!!! Isn't LAN J only about $700?

Of course you have to have points to burn... oh wait ;)

First class is worth it any day. And at worst LA or EK J thank you.

Those co-pays really sound like a commercial bucket, did you check to see U class was still available? I've had agents quote high co-pays then not seem to get why I wouldn't want to book it.
