 Apologies, I did not go as far back as I thought I needed (I got to the many 'conflict of interest' posts and got bored).

I will try the number and advise.

No apologies needed, its interesting to hear the data points coming through!

  • If you knew privately in advance that someone was going to drop a nuclear bomb was going off in Sydney, would you book flights out for your family ASAP or wait till the information is public before booking a flight out?!

I would scan then chop the ghost with my siege tank :)

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

It was only sent to people who have redeemed an Any Seat award in the past, which is interesting in itself!

I never got it.... the email that is.

Done a few JASA's recently too so your assumptions are incorrect ;)

Not my assumption, it was mentioned in the call that was the plan, although as Serfty points out it may have been any award booking as opposed to JASA bookings!

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

Seems a bit inconsistent. And just because I hadn't booked one didn't mean I hadn't been looking to. Surely that sort of email should just go out to everyone.

My take is that they would like to narrow the "target range" down for the time being.

The hoi polloi would be driven towards to P+P option on the revised website.

As to why, that remains to be seen.

However, with the 9-5 restrictions and potentially soon-to-be-limited call centre response, some may give up.

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

The number is in the footnotes of the email, where it is explained that the Any Seat Awards in classes X, Z, U or P can not be made online. Of course, it may help to be in one of the various online communities around, such as AFF, to understand what that means.

I stand corrected. So it is...hidden away in the fine print along with mention of some fare classes.

It would be nice if they gave the same prominence to things they take away as when they are introduced.

</removes grumpy hat> :)

ye-olde-sorry-if-it's-already-asked-and-answered:

in the new website, how do you filter by number of stops, departure / arrival time? I don't want to sort by them - I want to filter by them.

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

I note that some of the comments on this thread refer to the web site and some problems in its operation.
Therefore I hope this is the right place for my post.
I am trying to book a car from LHR from the 28/052014 to about the 09/06/2014.
I am getting (and have for a few weeks) an error called a long running script (whatever that means) two emails to QF feedback have yielded no response , and of course there is NO phone number to call.
Has anyone else had this issue?

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

Regardless of whether it's a good or bad decision overall, I can't understand why it wasn't pushed out until next week. It was only a few days ago that Qantas sent out the series of double / triple points & status credits offers to many members (even I got one). It only lasts until the 30th of June, why wouldn't they wait until the 1st of July to roll it out? Plus everyone trying to spend money on business expenses just before EOFY.

Good call Edge, was poor timing by QFF.

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

The type of ASA I am used to booking (consistently without any hassle at all) is one that doubles back through point of origin. This has included mixed domestic/ international PASA & JASA until today. This is the fare that I discussed with QF Premium today, including 2 Supervisors; the first of whom insisted I had never been able to book such an "illegal itinerary" = Lisee saw red!

The fact that you were previously able to do it sounds like an error to me. Various fares (such as classic award fares) have rules that restrict you to only making one departure from your point of origin. I'm thinking you probably shouldn't have got away with it in the past!

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

What's interesting to me is that amongst all these posts about conflict of interest, etc... I haven't seen one apology to the OP from the trolls who were making snarky remarks about "inaccurate information" every chance they got, and now that the OP has been vindicated, have strangely gone silent or suffered a bout of amnesia about the whole thing.

At one point, even though I didn't want the OP to be right, I was actually hoping that QF would do as he had reported, just so he could throw it back in the face of the doubters who were sending so much flak to him and others who had corroborated it from other sources. Childish I know, but sometimes when you're dealing with childish people, you have to stoop to their level.... Its not like the OP had anything to gain from reporting what he had found out, and I was grateful that the information was shared, but some posters here just went completely overboard with the insults.

From what I can tell, the OP's information was right on the money the first time, as verified by other independent sources, and due to operational concerns/delays, was delayed time and again, until they finally implemented it recently. To me, the phone number avenue to book a JASA is merely a stopgap measure based on the potential backlash which became apparent to QF after this thread. I have almost no doubt in my mind that "after review" in 3 months, they'll probably scrap the whole idea of "cheap" ASAs

That would require the people in the marketing silo actually talking to or possibly co-ordinating with the people in the revenue management silo. Thats just crazy talk right there.

I got it and I've never booked an ASA.

I didn't get the email and I've booked lots of ASA's

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

Got back from our JASA 2 months ago plus regular SYD-BNE or BNE-SYD JASAs and no email.Looks like they told a porkie.

+ 1

I particularly DISliked this piece of work.....

Jeez, this must be the sort of stuff which makes Red Roo and Qantas really take AFF seriously. (Sarcasm)

Rumours of changes to ASAs, everybody running around like the world is about to end, piling rumour on speculation on 'best guess', emailing Qantas executives, and when it's denied and the 'end of the world' date passes without cataclysm, the rumour springs up again, more fishwife gossip, some members step in and hint that they know the facts but can't reveal them (ego trip alert), more pleas to Red Roo followed by more denials but that's still not enough to make people just 'STFU'.

Honestly, do you lot have any idea how this must look from to Qantas? Right about now they're rolling their eyes and making the Red Roo's toss a coin to see who has to deal with AFF's petty little whinges and worries this week (the loser gets AFF duty!) while Qantas tries to get on with the job of running an airline and dealing with serious people who have serious concerns!

This sort of nonsense, picking up this tired thread again and again despite it being denied several times already, makes AFF look laughable, like a bunch of schoolkids having a tanty in the sandpit, instead of being taken like a 'serious' community of travellers and frequent flyers.

Does this pass as an apology?

Well I'm glad to see that finally we get some rumours which turn out to be accurate! Thanks 747800intercon for sharing the details, looks like you got the jump on this one!

Nor have I made an award booking (unless you count a points upgrade as an award booking). Still got it. Not complaining, mind you.

Hi,

So I rang up and asked for the marginal desk - the person asked who I had heard about this from. For the flight LAX->SYD on 22nd Sept which has Premium Econ availability in classic, the price quoted over the phone is $72000 + $671.9 or 140851. If you go onto the Qantas website then the fare costs $3019 and if you click on use points then it's 382400. So it is still doable at classic award level and the difference in cash cost is 230.

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

for me, this is not so much about the 'withdrawal' of cheap ASAs. this is about the relationship i thought AFF had with QF.

qf should have stayed silent instead of repudiating. or could have handled it more appropriately than leading off with a 'we're continually striving to improve your experience'.

that statement is disingenuous, it is patronising. because they only claim to improve our experience IF it improves theirs.

if the frequent flyer program is as clear as blue skies, I'm sure credibility is somewhere in the middle of a storm-cell somewhere.

Hi

Just wondering did you actually asked for the marginal desk? Will be good to know the correct term when calling up, as will have to call during work hours and don't want to waste time :(

Cheers
