Hi,

I did actually ask for the marginal desk however it was the same guy and he hadn't heard of it

Hi

Just wondering did you actually asked for the marginal desk? Will be good to know the correct term when calling up, as will have to call during work hours and don't want to waste time :(

Cheers

With the launch of the new website set for 08 April QF will no longer offer Any Seat Awards - it will simply being the points+pay option. The new site will offer commercial seats and award seats on the same search page. So I guess this is the end of cheap FASA/JASA which share the same revenue class as the classic awards. It was good while it lasted.

OP, a belated thank you for the heads up. I watched the thread with interest and acted on your information. My shout if we meet around the traps.

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

On to that difference. The new website booking system actually lets you drop the points down to 5000 points. Which is a big part of why I say these are not ASAs. Because the clear distinction in the past was points plus pay had a base of 5000 points whereas ASA had a base at the classic award level.
Isn't the definition of an Any Seat award what Qantas decides it is and not what people on AFF think it should be?

Seriously! The definitions can change anytime Qantas wants. Cost, both points and $ cost, can change anytime Qantas wants it to change. Why should Any Seats awards be immune from change?

FWIW airfares have been going up recently. People are paying ~$30 more for a simple SYD-BNE vv (regardless of sales periods or not) and still only earning 10SCs at a time.

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

Probably a silly question but have you tried ringing the Premium desk and asking them to add the car for you on Manage my Booking?

I would. Only I am not sure exactly what dates and car I want. So the option of running a scenario first is how I usually book the car.
If any of the IT bods on this site can enlighten me as to what a long script is. That would probably help ... Maybe

I'm IT illiterate unfortunately but try running it on BA.com as I usually find the QF prices and options similar

Where is all this "Marginal Desk" talk coming from? I've seen it mentioned earlier in this thread. The Qantas website has no such thing that I can find.

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

I Guess not :-(

It means that the code on the website working on your behalf is not behaving and the browser is warning you that it is taking too long to complete. Usually there will be a continue or stop running script button.

Been interesting reading through this. I thought something was up last weekend when I did a JASA from CBA to HBA and the points and SC did not credit. It was treated like a Classic redemption when it was not. A call to Qantas fixed it. Figure it was systems and programs migrating to the new arrangements and my booking done 8 or 9 months ago got caught up in it.

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

What got me tonight was that I was looking at the latest Jetstar sale and thought of using points to fly SYD to Manila. I was sure it cost me 60,000 points return a few years back. A points calculator on the website told me 30,000 points one way and then I looked at a date in March next year and it was coming up with 150,000 points one way. Totally confused and don't understand the website now.

The Marginal ASA booking number.

I ask again, how can I investigate "marginal" award availability...? Whats the secret...?

Do I have to learn a secret handshake...?

So far it seems that you find availability online as a Classic Award and ring the magic number to request it as an Any Seat Award paying the taxes and fees with cash

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

Apologies for jumping in as I'm not a regular contributor - a friend told me about the thread. I used to work in one of the Res rooms, and thought I'd try to help ... there is no "marginal desk", so asking for that directly will really confuse the staff and slow things up for you. Someone had previously mentioned asking for a Classic Award seat to be booked as an Any Seat Award, which is what they're used to calling them, and that will get you quicker results when you call through :) Hope you don't mind me chiming in ... just wanting to help out :)

Thanks PF... but that's pretty poor IMO.... So in "around" three months, you call the magical number, Speak to the "Marginal" desk, and..... wait for it.........

..........

Computer says NO!

Pretty easy to see whats going on here, before it was clear on the web from searching, now you have to ask and "trust" them that there is a "marginal" award available, but eventually we all know it will disappear...

So we have a new acronym an MA "Marginal Award".... but not for long...

Problem is, its not in their interest to say yes when you ask.....

See above. The stopover not permitted in Australia bit was actually for flights ex-Australia. Apparently it was previous possible to fly sin-xBNE/MEL-SYD and change to have a stopover at the intermediate city. No longer allowed in Australia.
I have been playing around with the website (yes it is coughbersome) and have been able to almost get back to most of what I was able to do before the changes.

It was nice to be able to do SIN-SYD on a Thursday and then SYD-BNE on a Sunday and be included as a stopover and price as if it was a SIN-BNE sector but that is only a small loss in the grand scheme of things.

Can you swing a sack of doorknobs? (Simpsons reference)

Some people have suggested using EF and setting an alert for 'U' or 'P'
