Honestly, I will just book the classic award from now on. I only fly enough to be on Silver and I have better things to do with my time. My 1.5hrs phone call to SQ to book a return flight has scarred me for life. I can also make use of my CX diamond status, and sounds like classic award is easier to get from the changes.

I used to work in one of the Res rooms, and thought I'd try to help ... there is no "marginal desk",

Welcome shacks66.
The term "marginal ASA" appears to be one recently developed by QF (certainly not by this Board) and let loose in the last couple of days...
Agree I would not like to work on a marginal desk... might end up like a former PM.

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

I ask again, how can I investigate "marginal" award availability...? Whats the secret...?

Do I have to learn a secret handshake...?

If someone told you then it would no longer be "marginally" secret but an open secret and we can't have everyone being able to get a benefit can we ?

They will rue the day to half paraphrase Mulrooney

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

I'm with you Shintaro. So we can't even search for ASA's now? Unless we call?

If that is the case ( and my experience) why do they still have the ASA blurb on the screen with a BOOK NOW link to a screen with options that can only be booked as Classic awards. ?

is it some bizarre Irish joke ?

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

On to that difference. The new website booking system actually lets you drop the points down to 5000 points. Which is a big part of why I say these are not ASAs. Because the clear distinction in the past was points plus pay had a base of 5000 points whereas ASA had a base at the classic award level.

I think that Points+Pay reads just as though it is a payment mechanism now. What matters is whether the marginal ASAs will be able to be dropped to 5000 points, or do they still have a floor of the classic rate...

Apologies for jumping in as I'm not a regular contributor - a friend told me about the thread. I used to work in one of the Res rooms, and thought I'd try to help ... there is no "marginal desk", so asking for that directly will really confuse the staff and slow things up for you. Someone had previously mentioned asking for a Classic Award seat to be booked as an Any Seat Award, which is what they're used to calling them, and that will get you quicker results when you call through :) Hope you don't mind me chiming in ... just wanting to help out :)

Welcome to AFF, we have been told by QF Loyalty they have set up a special team just to handle the "marginal" redemptions this week, hence the special number to call.

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

Thanks for the welcome :) The "marginal" reference is more widely used by other areas outside Res, and they may not have been aware the phrase isn't common for the front-line staff on the phones.

When do we start referring to them as MASA ?

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

That took a solid two days to get back up to speed. I only discovered xASA's this year and have found that they're a great way to burn points heading back to visit family in Sydney for a low cost (JASA 48k points plus $300-$400 vs around $850+ for economy for ISA-SYD). I'll be very sad to see these go as I felt it was a good trade off to be able to treat myself once a year to a business flight that would otherwise cost in excess of $2k.

This is what happens when marketing gets a blank cheque, and IT couldn't be coughd building a complete solution. Enter new QF booking engine.

Enhancements abound.

xASA customers have been 'marginalised'.

Way to go QF!

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

I note that some of the comments on this thread refer to the web site and some problems in its operation.
Therefore I hope this is the right place for my post.
I am trying to book a car from LHR from the 28/052014 to about the 09/06/2014.
I am getting (and have for a few weeks) an error called a long running script (whatever that means) two emails to QF feedback have yielded no response , and of course there is NO phone number to call.
Has anyone else had this issue?

I Guess not :-(

Probably a silly question but have you tried ringing the Premium desk and asking them to add the car for you on Manage my Booking?

I would. Only I am not sure exactly what dates and car I want. So the option of running a scenario first is how I usually book the car.
If any of the IT bods on this site can enlighten me as to what a long script is. That would probably help ... Maybe 

OT: Probably a silly question, but why do you want to book a car on Qantas.com anyway?

Wouldn't it be easier to search on the car hire company websites, and apply any applicable discount codes there? If you have VA status (SG or WP), you can also get a complimentary car hire status match.

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

Hi,

I assume that Qantas makes a lot of money out of Woolworths EDRs and the various branded CCs -eg Amex and Mastercard.

I have emailed all these organisations and told them that Qantas has devalued the benefit to me of shopping/buying with them.

I am hopeful that if enough of us let these and similar organizations know that the has been a benefit reduction with QFF points , then maybe they may put some pressure on Qantas to retain the previous scenario with ASAs

This is a short sighted more by Qantas. It might save them some cash in the short term, but in the long run every thread they pull out of QF (Frequent Flyer benefits, overseas routes etc) devalues the Airline.

Now there you go using logic.
Good point. However I don't like to be beaten. Anyway tried it again and this time when I stopped the long thingy it worked. So no problem.
PS
I have no status with VA as I don't fly with them.

Hi,

A poster has asked to copy the general thrust of my emails to the various card holders who push QFF points my way.

Here it is ( the details of your cards etc added where appropriate)

Hi,
I have one of your ......... cards.
The ultimate reason I chose it over the alternatives was that I could maximise the number of Qantas Frequent Flier points I could earn..
This arrangement has worked pretty well up to now.
Recent changes to the QFF programme reducing the ability to choose and book business class Any Seat Awards has made me wonder if I should look elsewhere. The “points and pay option” is nowhere near as attractive. A significant advantage of the program has been lost
...........is a business and you want the best value for money and I am sure that you pay good money for the Qantas points.
The ability of using your ........ card to give me free travel on Qantas has been reduced, devalued.
Perhaps you should review the price you pay Qantas to see if it gets you the value it once did.
I like your ...... just the way it is but it is not as attractive as it once was.
I am only one cardholder and am clearly upset. Maybe your next focus session or online questionnaire could include some questions relating to satisfaction with the latest QFF changes.
Here is a link to one of the frequent flier websites that has canvassed the changes

Clearly I am happy to provide any further feedback should you wish.
Yours sincerely,
..............
Card details ......

I find it a convenient spot to compare companies as an initial start.

It's a bit surprising how often most will be around the same price, and then one company will have some cheaper options for some reason. It helps to identify which company that is!

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

I sent feedback to QF and have just got the following reply:

Dear Miss JessicaTam,

Thank you for contacting The Qantas Club and Frequent Flyer Service Centre.

I'm sorry to learn of you're disappointment with the changes to Any Seat Award bookings. Feedback from our members is always welcome and assists in the ongoing review of the program and our services. Please be assured that your feedback regarding this will be forwarded to Qantas management for their information.

Not that encouraging, but at least it has been logged.
