They already do it though e.g. you can't upgrade on an international sale fare..
To clarify, you (generally) can't upgrade on an economy international sale fare.

However, you can with PE and Business sale fares (those booking into R, T, D, I - and for mASA, Z and U class). Often it can't be requested online, so you need to call.

...
Aren't upgrades for international flights processed at the last minute? You are potentially not taking away a revenue ticket from sale at T-12 months. So they are not really the same as Any Seat awards.
Not these days, international upgrades can be a process ongoing from a week before the scheduled flight departure with confirmations from then right up until boarding.

What's harder to guage is how many people this thread has made less loyal to QF. I know for me the loss of cheap ASA's means I won't be crediting anything other than QF and OW flights to creep towards LTG (although how long before Lifetime Status is 'enhanced' is another question) and certainly will be exploring other airlines / programs more now that QFF is one step closer to a cash-equivalent discount program.

Loyalty might be a problem outside of the "marginal" desk operating hours.... Red Roo, I have points, I'm 99% sure there is a MASA there for me to book, but I cant...what do you want me to do, use up all my points on a rubbish classic....? then what...? no points...? Go to VA on a pure cash basis while I build up some loyalty from them...?

and all this is apparently easier due to the new website... pffftt rubbish

And this is the thanks I get from trying Jetstar last week....gee thanks

RANT OVER

Funny how this thread now has the second most likes of any thread in AFF history! Are you reading this QF and Red Roo?

At least someone can see the bright side ;)

Yes its getting smaller John... nearly small enough to put in your pocket :p

Re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

Even in bulk, QFF get around a cent per point and at that level you are talking 100s of millions of points - more with smaller entities where a million points may cost from $20,000 + GST.

So that 48,000 would garner $500+.
Perhaps you are right and it is closer to 1c/QFF point income for Qantas. Still a long way short of the retail value of the business class airfare compared to an Any Seat Award.

and every QFF member gets 150 "free" points by typing some meaningful rubbish into a toolbar 150 times a month, effectively giving every QFF member $18 every year, how many QFF members are there again...?

If they have a problem with people using points, why hand them out so "free"ly...?

Yes -but not even close to the difference you were implying ...

They will actually be making money off it.

I can obviously only speak for myself, but it's already been quite an eye-opener. I was just about to pull the trigger on transferring 80,000 points to QFF after a recent credit card offer, and then once I started to realise how much more that could get me through Krisflyer, Asia Miles, or AAdvantage... many, many options for international travel out there, wish I'd known about some of them sooner. What's particularly ridiculous is that some other programs get me much better value on Qantas than QFF.

The other major change for me is our overseas family holidays... five times family transfer added up to decent points, but now that I can't use them easily, it's easier to think in terms of six times the cheapest reasonable fare. Which is pretty much never Qantas.

I'm no longer tempted to work towards LTG, either... it's the audacity (and sheer incompetence) of the spin that's alienated me most, I think.

As PIL sang, "Anger is an energy". And I now feel energised.

Bingo, Correct....! Hence why are some of us worried that they are not making $$$ even at $0.01 per point as a redemption, it's only foolish to think they are not making anything out of it...

Which is why I avoid 'direct earn' credit cards, giving me flexibility to transfer to good value programs of my choice when I want to.

The whole ASA change makes it easier to ignore the Amex "Transfer points now, we know you have in the past" or Everyday Rewards "Come back, we miss you" emails.

LOL at the people claiming to move to Virgin because of this change

I would love to know more about the JASA opportunities on Virgin

Well Qantas will get to you later... it's all part of the Grand Plan  The thing with enhancements, eventually everyone will be affected, then what...? It's not like going to Jetstar is going to do anything, after all that's the second part of their plan...

How far are we away from the ultimate enhancement....? Some call it the rise of the orange cancer ;)

Re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

This comes back to the age old debate of who is a 'Frequent Flyer'.

Some people think that their 100+ annual Red e deals constitute a frequent flyer - and while we all salute you for sitting in Y that often and agree you deserve the benefits, the fact is that someone taking a handful of paid J trips makes far more profit for the airline. This has been covered in countless SC debate threads in the past.

It is a loyalty programme under another name. It's not just flying, we're loyal to the credit card providers and the other partners too. Why else would they participate?

In addition, QF make truckloads of cash from points earning credit cards, and other products, then those points are redeemed for awards, in this case ASAs. To suggest that these have no revenue for QF is absurd, albeit agreed lower that a cash fare equivalent when booked in classic fare buckets.

Also, the gaining of WP1 would not be easy, considering the limited award availability, but let's be fair, if a person has earned millions of QFF points on cards etc, they have indirectly purchased those points, transferring value into the programme. QF value this, therefore allow certain award tickets to earn SCs. Most who use xASA's don't book them exclusively, they will make QF their carrier of choice when they book cash fares too.

If in fact their modeling suggested that ASAs at classic levels were bleeding QFF dry, then come out and say that, and remove them. Don't just put a PR smokescreen in front of your most loyal and engaged customers who use them. The removal of them, however, would cause a massive gaping hole in their programme once many of us shifted our spend and points earn elsewhere.

This is supported by the fact that QFF is apparently the only profitable part of the business.

Don't overwork the golden goose, or it may take flight.

Sorry, waste of time....everything you have said is just far too logical and obvious so management;'s philosophy is "let's stuff it up fellas"

If I'm not mistaken, their "classic" equivalent awards already include points and status.

I think this was a temporary offer that finished on the 30th of June...

Re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

Those of you suffering from a touch of the vapours will all be back if you've really even left QF. Enough of the grumbles. You vote. You believe all they say? Same in bizzyness world.

Re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

Does anyone have any advice on other FF programs to look at, previously I have been redeeming FASA and JASA's to attain status and maintain status, however with what looks like the removal of ASA's i doubt if I will be bale to keep any status. Do any of the other airlines allow for points redemptions to earn points and maintain status? Or would I be better off just converting to Amex rewards and just not worrying about status and trying my luck to continue to redeem points for F or J seats in which case status doesn't really matter? I have become accustom to lounge access (when doing domestic economy trips) but I guess there is always the option of purchasing club membership for this. Looks like I might need to go and have a study up on some of the other airline threads on here. Was just starting to enjoy my FASA's and JASA's. :( looking forward to hear about what others are thinking about doing going forward. FWIW not really a fan of Virgin I think they are similar to Jetstar but happy to be converted/convinced otherwise as I haven't really flown them in years being a Qantas Loyalist

what is the bet they review that and capitalise on increasingly disfruntled FF's. Not a major part of the market but the difference of even .5 to 1 % makes a big difference at those levels
