re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

It surprised me that a number of IT people on here didn't grasp the concept of a delayed implementation

To my IT thinking, "delayed implementation" is quite normal - especially when Business Users change Requirements part-way through the project ... as it sounds happened here!!

I'll modify that to 3 months after they inform members that the T&Cs are being varied to remove ASA.

I don't think any change to T&C would be involved. Current T&C allow that not all fare types are available so not allowing P, U, X redemptions doesn't need a change. Likewise, they can price the points any way they like.

Note that the T&C don't contain any reference to points plus pay at all - so must be considering these a form of ASA from the perspective of T&C, so while these are available, all that has happened is an enhancement within the scope of the current terms.

Markis - just a question and more to put my mind at ease as a concerned member of this forum.

You said that you were privy to the Qantas info yesterday afternoon and then used up a lot of points last night. To me, when there were lots of conversations about ethics and embargoes, this does not wash right.

Don't take offence - every time I have re-worded this it sounds mildly accusatory. I'm just hoping you will clarify as a few people have asked.

The booking engine has a very similar look and feel to the new AA booking engine. I've quite liked the AA booking engine in the last 3 weeks while playing around with international flight schedules.

15.2.1 would have to be changed. Points plus pay has been marketed separately to Any Seat Awards. They cannot be considered the same thing, especially as they have separate and different definitions in the T&Cs.

Please also quote the conditions for ASAs that says not all fare types are available. ASA were specifically marketed as allowed any seat on any flight to be redeemed as an award.

I find it quite funny really, mainly the fact that it was bragged about (briefed on the changes) and then proudly saying that he burnt up a ton of points last night

Not sure the benefit of posting either of those comments on here except for people to ask questions

If he was briefed (and no idea why as a simply a moderator on here) then don't come on bragging about how you took advantage of the information for personal advantage

Do it, but do it quietly, as you are certainly not going to win any respect by doing what you have done

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

I got the impression that Markis didn't get any more insider info than what was already on the forums, took a punt putting 2+2 together and getting a negative outcome and made a number of bookings. I'd come to a similar conclusion that the embargo wouldn't mean good news and had my dates been available I'd have done the same thing.

Beside, apparently, being part of the private media briefing about the changes.

Nope he made it quite clear that he was briefed yesterday and that was a private briefing, yet the silence from Red Roo on here is well to be expected.

Confirmed via a call centre rep is not confirmed

Either way, ring, ring, ring and ring and book whatever you need in the next 90 days as it seems that when Phase 2 of the rollout/upgrade/whatever happens there will be no more JASA/FASA

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

My inquiry is mainly about the selectivity of the briefing yesterday. Who got it within this forum and are moderators comfortable with certain favoured people (?them??) getting a heads up - including, it seems, info not otherwise available at the time when they are forbidden to pass that info into the forum? If they can't pass on the briefing info, what do they think the point of the briefing was, other than to curry favour with them? I'm happy to hear any other possibilities.

One possibility is that Qantas gave a briefing in advance just like any other company does and for the same reason.

When there is a change which may be contentious (as this certainly was) and has definitely been widely discussed on AFF for that matter, you want to ensure some 'key influencers' are 'in the loop' and explain it to them, give them the chance to ask questions and get their facts straight. It's not about 'currying favour', it's about controlling the message!

Naturally Qantas wouldn't want people to pass this information on before the change took place because they would rush out and grab all the FASA/JASA awards they could. Hence the embargo. I think that is totally fair and it's a credit to AFF that it is recognised as one of those 'key influencers' and was invited to attend this briefing.

I would much rather see AFF involved in this and being able to help inform members and pass on accurate information about the changes, rather than not being involved and having everybody running around this morning like chooks with their heads cut off!

But this raises two other issues.

1. If somebody who was privy to that briefing used this information to their advantage, that is simply not on. There were some posts last night about the 'ethics' of using privileged information and I hope this is not the case.

2. I would also like to ask if any of those who were in on the briefing have received any favoured treatment from Qantas Frequent Flyer, such as a free upgrade of their QFF status to Platinum? Anything that might explain why some people today seem a lot less defensive about these changes than they might normally have been?

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

747800 thanks again you were spot on. Thanks to your info I booked the flights when you first mentioned the ASA changes. As for the negative comments on here please disregard them as you can see you've got a lot of positive comments and there people here on AFF that really did appreciate your thread. I know you have all the inside info and you keep it honest and dare I say you're more reliable and trustworthy with unbiased info than RedRoo. Please reconsider and keep posting on here lots of people will appreciate it. If anything what this thread has done is shown that we can't buy the spin and rubbish fed to us by qf and redroo at times. Thanks again.

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

C'mon, don't need a blue with you on this - QFF is subject; but would you like to address the main issue I'm querying (recognising that you have no obligation to do so :) )?.

My inquiry is mainly about the selectivity of the briefing yesterday. Who got it within this forum and are moderators comfortable with certain favoured people (?them??) getting a heads up - including, it seems, info not otherwise available at the time when they are forbidden to pass that info into the forum? I assumed QF gave markis10 (and perhaps some others) private briefing because they are AFF moderators and not because of their own CVs (Customer Values).

If that is the case, I would expect those at the hearing - barring specific objections / constraints from QF - has a duty of care (as mods) to post a summary of what they received even if what they heard is past rumours now confirmed.

"Info is like what has been public..." does not seem like a summary from a media briefing to me.

Mods have authority / respect from members and QF; they should act accordingly IMHO.

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

Folks, let's try and keep this civil, shall we?

Let's remember two basic truths in QF/AFF-Life:

1. QF will continually "change the rules", usually to their own advantage. Yes, they're supposed to give notice when they do, again: history tells us that usually they won't

2. Everyone posting on here does so voluntarily - this includes the Mods. The vast majority do so out of a sense of mutual benefit. If you fail to see the "value" in reading, you always have the option to not do so.

Now, back to bashing Qantas ....

Thank you to Red Roo and the team for the briefing yesterday

I am pleased to say I have 9000 off QFF points left, I seemed to have spent a few last night!

Can I just say - having never met anyone from this forum yet - I actually take offense to this.
This thread has been around for months and on Facebook as well as on this thread early yesterday afternoon uncertainty about the future of JASA certainly seemed to be on the forefront of peoples minds. Yes others not just Markis10 were alerted to a press briefing occurring at 4pm with an embargo thereafter. But had I had my points and availability I would have been booking jasa and fasa all over the place from about 2pm based on the information on other publicly available advice.
If markis10, like I should have, headed this warning and booked. I have no issues with that.
My biggest issue is that having acted on this ides of march warning he is being subject to some of the same flaming that this thread saw in the early stages.
He found out about the fate after booking and even considered cancelling to avoid situations such as this ... calm down guys we are all people
business is business, these things happen
and saying im not flaming you "but" means "I am flaming you"
I still consider myself a new member but I find it sad that there are threads where people think it is ok to let the hounds loose.
We all knew for months the information was here...

some members may be cats of other members but for arguments sake lets call them people

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

You can now book classic awards inside 24 hours now.

For bookings ex-Australia! EX-SIN the restriction is still at least 2 days, I guess an improvement over 3 days. But still inferior to using EK points or BA points for QF bookings up to a few hours before the flight.

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

So essentially we are in the same position that we were a couple of years ago - you can book award flights using points and pay for surcharges with increased availability for WP, P1 and CL?
